Unauthorized Migrants:Their numbers and Characteristics
Pew Hispanic Center ^ | 2005 | Jefferey S. Pascell

Posted on 06/03/2006 11:33:26 PM PDT by garbageseeker

This paper was published last year without much fanfare from the media. It is a briefing paper for the Independent Task Force on Immigration and America's Future. The paper was sponsored by Spencer Abraham, former U.S. senator and who was former Demaprtment of Energy head under President Bush. Also, it was co-sponsored by Lee Hamilton, former Congressman from Indiana. This bipartisan paper gives in delatiled account the costs of illegal immigration to the United States. It gives the cost in education, health care costs and what industries illegal immigrants work in . It is very easy to follow and it has great color graphs to show the problems we face. I will also include a report from the Center of Immigration Studies to complement the study. The CIS report is written by Stephen A. Camarota. Both of these informative reports were written in 2005 and they are extremely sobering. These reports should be used when refuting those who say illegal immigration is good for American society

43% of illegal aliens from Mexico receive some sort of public assistance. Lots of felonies being committed.

I hope that both of these reports give an accurate picture of what is really going on and that the situation will get worse if legislation in Congress is passed.

Enjoy and I hope to read your comments.

"Unauthorized Migrants"

Good grief, why don't they just say it?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

2002 - 2004 = 39% of the illegals went to other states besides the Big Six.

IOW, they're going right up the gut of America, infiltrating the small towns, places that families have moved to after leaving the cities and states that illegals drove them out from in the first place.

Just reconquistadoring the country that Americans won't play conquistadors and conquer.

The Pew Hispanic Center reason why they use "Unauthorized Migrant":

An "unauthorized migrant" is a person who resides in the United States, but which is not a U.S. citizen, has not been admitted for permanent residence, and is not in a of specific authorized temporary statuses permitting long term resident and work. The term "unauthorized migrant" best encompasses the population in the data because many migrants now enter the country using counterfeit documents and thus really "documented" in the sense they have documents, but not completely legal documents. While many stay permanently in the Unites States, unauthorized migrants are likely to leave the country the country than other groups. Thus, we use migrants rather than "immigrant" to highlight this distinction.
This is at the bottom of page 2 of the Hispanic Pew Report in small print. In other words, they are illegal immigrants. Its all word semantics. Lastly, an illigal immigrant is not likely to return to his/hir homeland but stay here.

Because they are packed in like clown houses in a circus.

Cool. I need to brush up on my circus knowledge. They are packed in there all right, ...they get there Escalade with bad-ass rims parked fresh on the lawn + food stamps for the rib-eye; you know.

Only $55K each net cost for those adult illegals over their lifetimes ?

With 20 million of them, that's only a little more than $1.1 TRILLION we taxpayers will be picking up the tab for.

What's the big deal ?

And those anchor babies will only cost us $50 BILLION per year for K-12 public education on top of that.

Heck, what are we worried about ?

Where are you getting your numbers. From a parallel dimension or a La Raza and MEChA talking point.

They cost taxpayer billions of dollars especially when use social servives and when house them in state and federal prisons

I alpologize for my comment to you. I was over the top. Sometimes emotions tend to boil. The numbers you gave is low balling it.If you add everything from social services, hospital costs, the cost of apprehending illegal immigrants and the cost of illegal immigrants in the criminal justice system(including state and federal prison) the number eclipses well over $10 billion dollars a year in all 50 states. Multiply that figure over 20 years and adjusting it for inflation.
