Even though I am not a Christian, I feel embarrassed for them to be associated with the likes of you.

I am a Christian and I'm not embarrassed at all to be associated with rzeznikj at stout. His comments are astute, wise, and spot on. He seems like a great American.

Human beings have sex, it is normal, it is healthy. Get a life.

Within the bounds of marriage, that's true. Christians encourage sexual relations within marriage--haven't you heard? You sound like you're arguing for casual sex any time, place, or for any reason. I would argue that someone with that attitude is the one in need of a "life." But in our modern society, some folks just prefer perpetual adolescence to adulthood. Pretty sad.

I have been married for 26 years and was being berated for not electing to bringing 30 odd children into the world in that time,

Another poster proposed that married couples who do not wish to have more children should practice abstinence.

Exactly... Mexico isn't the focus here.

The focus is on trashy women who want to have sex with men they don't intend to marry and get rid of any "evidence".

Abortion is murder....everyone knows it, they just don't like to be confronted with it....especially "selfish" people.

"And what truth is that? That every woman in the world needs to have litters of children? I realize that many people think Malthus was a fool but would the world really be better off if we had 12 billion people? 20 billion? 50 billion?"

There are going to be billions of children born, will the World be better off if they are raised as Chineese Communists, Radical Muslims, or tolerant Americans raised on Democracy? Try and think big picture....

"But, there is a way to teach being open to life without coming across as a church lady. If Kessler does become a priest, hopefully he'll mature and realize that."

So I guess St. John the Baptist come across as a "church lady" in your view?

People don't like to told that they're anything other than the beautiful, wonderful people that they view themselves as being. Heaven forbid that this young stripling would have the audacity to tell a "Catholic" audience anything other than what they wanted to hear.

The unmitigated gall of young people today.

"That said, you should check out the Catholic homeschool groups we frequent. My family and our four kids are considered a "small" family among these folks who are among the most devout Catholics in the country."

That's interesting and inspiring. But I didn't see any links in your post.

(hint, hint, hint, hint)

"or...maybe there are certain speeches that are better left for venues other than a graduation ceremony where the focus should be on the graduates."

Yes, I guess we shouldn't use a graduation ceremony to shake up the little dears and their sense of self-beauty.

My 16yo daughter is on birth control.

See, that's the beauty of this country. I can do what ever I want and raise my family the way I see fit without giving a goshdarnit what anyone thinks.

My house, that little plot of land there, that small square of earth, is mine. Whoever doesn't like what goes on on my little square can stay the hell away from it and tend to their own square.

"Your opinion. I disagree and am happy this young man had the stones to stand up to all the self-important gas-bags who objected."

I agree with you on this. It was a good topic and a courageous speech and it'll be remembered. Morality is not determined by a majority vote.

This young man will probably have a difficult time making it to the Priesthood if that's what he sees as his vocation. I suspect that there were a few young Catholic ladies in the audience who were thinking: "I'd like to get to know THIS young man a little better!"

"My 16yo daughter is on birth control."

Was that a precautionary measure because she might become sexual active? If so, should we go ahead a reserve a room at the local rehab incase they might get into drugs?

In NFP you abstain from sex only during the few days a month that your wife is fertile. It's easily determined by learning the natural cues the woman's body gives out at that time of month. I think it's possible for people to have a little self control for those days. Again, I really want to encourage those that have not taken NFP classes to give it a try. It's not painful. :o) It's also not strictly a Catholic thing. We took our classes at a Baptist church because that's the only place that was offering them at the time we wanted to take them. Go ahead! Check it out! http://www.ccli.org/

Drugs? You mean like Tylenol?

What's wrong with Tylenol?

You're right. You absolutely have the right to put your daughter on birth control. No one is saying you can't. This article is not about outlawing birth control. It's still a pretty hurtful thing to do to your daughter. I bet you didn't know that the pill can make sex less enjoyable to the woman did you? It messes up the chemicals in her body. Not exactly the best way to introduce a girl to sex.

My fiance' was "the pregnant girl" in high school. Its her daughter we're talking about. She missed out on alot and was forced to take care of a baby while her friends went off to college. She did a wonderful job, I might add, and wouldn't trade it for anything. But she doesn't want her daughter going through the same thing.

No matter how smart, no matter how many moral values are drilled into their heads, teenagers make stupid decisions sometime, believe it or not. I did it. Every teenager from every generation has done it no matter how precious their parents thought they were.

So what are my alternatives?

Teach her and tell her not to do it?
Already did that and reiterate on a daily basis.

In a perfect world she would be a virgin until she's married. I like living in reality.
I would rather her go to college at eighteen instead of buying diapers at eighteen.
I can't do anything about the boys that use her. (here again, every single generation of boys did that)She will have to learn to deal with that. I can prevent her from buying diapers should she make a bad decision.

""""Not exactly the best way to introduce a girl to sex.""""

The operative word being "girl". That sounds kinda wrong.

16yo single mother is not exactly the best way to introduce a baby to the world. Or my household.

"And I have a right to say you sure have a lot of faith in her ability to take the same pill at the exact same time everyday and then to abstain for weeks if she doesn't, to not to get STDs, and finally, to handle the fact that she is just a slut being used by lecherous teenage boys who don't otherwise give a crap about her."

Of course you have the right to say it, you also have the right to continue being a complete a$$.. so, please, keep going.
Correct me if I'm wrong...Youre saying that girls on the pill are sluts? That seems like a very broad statement from a very narrow minded individual.

You know reading that again, it does kinda sound like you just called my daughter a slut.

Whudya say I reach through this screen and rip your throat out if you do that again, hmm?
