Matthews: U.S. in Iraq No Better Than 'Colonial Masters'

In one fell segment, Chris Matthews pulled back the curtain and revealed his view of America's foreign policy intentions as fundamentally pernicious. For him, the United States in Iraq is no better than a 'colonial master.'

Matthews' guest on this evening's 'Hardball' was John Batiste, one of the former generals calling for Donald Rumsfeld's removal as Secretary of Defense. The topic at hand was the failure to anticipate the insurgency with which we have been been faced in Iraq.

Describing the miscalculation, Matthews said: "It's like the British coming in to New York at the beginning of the Revolution and saying they weren't going to face any resistance."

A bit later, he added:

"Every Third World country, in Africa, Asia, Latin America, has thrown off its colonial masters, because they don't want outsiders telling them what to do. And we didn't think we would face that reality in Iraq? Why didn't they think there wasn't going to be a resistance?"

Batiste was happy to second Matthews' notion: "I don't think they studied the past."

Apparently Matthews doesn't believe that America's goal is to help establish a democracy in Iraq. He does not distinguish between the aim of the United States in Iraq and the goal of the the British attempting to crush a democratic a revolution in America. We are nothing but 'colonial masters.' This is the profoundly negative view of America harbored by Matthews. One suspects it is a view shared by many in the MSM and the Democratic party.

The Pentagon has confirmed today that Osama bin Laden, Mullah Omar and al Zawahri have been captured and are being held at an undisclosed location.

NOAA scientist have issued a press release today claiming they have found a simple low cost solution to global warming (rumored to have been assisted by algore).

Greek officials report that Natalie Holloway has been found living on a local oil magnate’s yacht.

A UFO has crashed near Ft Wayne Utah, the alien occupants are alive and being cared for by Air Force personnel.

We’ll have these and other stories, but first, out top story; New evidence has come to light that strongly suggests that Bush did in fact lie about WMD’s!

I’m Chris Matthews, let’s play Hardball.

The liberal moron speaks again. Like all liberals, they are upset that THEY are not the ones spending the country into indebted oblivion. Someone should remind them that their minions in the Congress supported the Iraq war...how quickly they forget for the sake of having something, anything, to complain about. Their sole mission.

The analogy is false. We're not trying to "hold on" to this "colony". We're trying desperately to get them to stand on their own feet so we can safely leave.

Why didn't they think there wasn't going to be a resistance?"

Fuzzy grammar can indicate fuzzy thinking.

I've run out of adjectives to describe Matty's thinking- he is completely stuck and incapable of listening to ideas other than his own.

Matthews: U.S. in Iraq No Better Than 'Colonial Masters'

What a coincidence. I find Chris Matthews no better than a hemorrhoid.

Hemorrhoids are better. They at least shrink to nothing, eventually.

"Every Third World country, in Africa, Asia, Latin America, has thrown off its colonial masters, because they don't want outsiders telling them what to do."

Most of the colonial masters left voluntarily after WWII because they couldn't afford the upkeep on their empires anymore. Like the British in India and Africa, the massacres, ethnic cleansing and economic exploitation started after the Brits left, not before.

But none of this applies to Iraq, except the fact that after we leave, the massacres will begin in earnest.

Everyone knows Matthews is an ignorant shill for the Democrats - his background experience in politics was with that windbag congressman ,O'Neill, and speech writer for another winner - Jimmy Carter.

Incidentally, National Review has had articles that detail the fact that his colleague, David Shuster, is a deliberate and willing fabricator of the news.

I only occasionally view him just to remind myself how BAD he really is! When those occasions occur his Nielson ratings go up 10% ! He and Olbermann together don't get enough viewers to make a blip on cable ratings.

Yep, his network just keeps him around to feed the unwashed liberal masses that need their dose of socialism and anti-Americanism every day. Other than that, he is useless and a real afront to journalism (if there is any left).... :-)

One case where a double negative doesn't result in a positive! But it wouldn't really make much difference if the boob's lies were expressed in grammatically correct sentences!

Funny how Matthews never bothered to mention our "colonial" involvement in Bosnia and Haiti.

Simply amazing

You're so right! By the way, sometime I'd to post a historical fact explaining why Matthews, other liberal Dems, socialists, and Lefties in general have a COMPLETE misunderstanding of the term "colonialism" (a/k/a Imperialism) that they toss around so glibly.

It may sound irrelevant but it's VERY important - not only because it's crucial to the Left's mythology but because it's been used so often that even we capitalists and conservatives have become fuzzy about it's true historical import, and, by default, accept their false premises.

If you or any other FReepers would like to hear it, RSVP
