Mohamed Cartoon Jihad" & "Da Vinci Code" Reactions Compared; Savagery vs. Civilization

Posted on 05/22/2006 1:43:13 PM PDT by JBGUSA

I know that readers are probably sick and tired of "Da Vinci Code" threads, and don’t think there’s much more to say on the topic. They could not be more wrong. Christians rightly or wrongly vilify the movie as "blasphemy for lots of cash". Maybe they’re right. Maybe they’re wrong. I’m not Christian.

But what does bear pointing out is that, as far as I know, there have been no threats of death, or even serious threats of organized violence. Keep in mind that this is a movie showing in theatres worldwide, so there would be lots of opportunities. I am sure that, correctly, most moviegoers feel perfectly safe. Contrast this to the reaction to the publication of mildly offensive cartoons depicting Mohamed in an obscure Danish newspapers. Representative commentary on this "tale of two religions" appears below:

Brian Hutchinson of the National Post wrote, with respect to Da Vinci Code:

Theatre chain drops spot that was to appear before film

VANCOUVER - A movie house commercial that encourages churchgoers to see and discuss Hollywood thriller The Da Vinci Code has been dropped by Canada's largest cinema chain, which said the ad was part of a religious campaign to "stalk" unsuspecting film patrons.

The 10-second spot was produced by evangelical Christians and was to be shown for the next month inside 65 Cineplex cinemas in Ontario and Western Canada.

The ad directs people to a Christian Web site devoted to the controversial film, which opens across North America today.

In addition to producing the ad, the Star reported, Campus Crusade had "mobilized a small army of volunteers from Toronto to Vancouver willing to stalk moviegoers in the line outside cinemas" and to press upon them "biblical tracts," debunking contentious claims about Jesus Christ said to be in the movie treatment of The Da Vinci Code.

Campus Crusade's marketing director was flabbergasted when he read the Cineplex e-mail.

"We never planned to stalk anybody," Braden Douglas said yesterday.

"As I told the Toronto Star reporter, rather than throw up walls, we want to encourage people to see the film and to discuss it."

Hjörtur Gudmundsson, writing for the The Brussels Journal wrote, with respect to "cartoon jihad":

"The War is On"(Link to article)

Yesterday (Thursday) Mullah Krekar, the alleged leader of the Islamist group Ansar al-Islam who has been living in Norway as a refugee since 1991, said that the publication of the Muhammad cartoons was a declaration of war. "The war has begun," he told Norwegian journalists. Mr Krekar said Muslims in Norway are preparing to fight. "It does not matter if the governments of Norway and Denmark apologize, the war is on."

Islamist organizations all over the world are issuing threats towards Europeans. The Islamist terrorist group Hizbollah announced that it is preparing suicide attacks in Denmark and Norway. A senior imam in Kuwait, Nazem al-Masbah, said that those who have published cartoons of Muhammad should be murdered. He also threatened all citizens of the countries where the twelve Danish cartoons [see them all here, halfway down the page] have been published with death.

Yesterday morning armed Palestinians again surrounded the offices of the European Union in Gaza City, demanding its closure and an apology for the cartoons within 24 hours. They threatened attacks on all Danes, Norwegians and Frenchmen in Palestine. "We suggest that all offices and embassies of the three countries will be closed, otherwise we will not hesitate to eliminate them," their statement said. Norway at once closed its consulate on the West Bank for the public, but has not yet decided to withdraw its staff. On Thursday evening Palestinian gunmen also entered a number of hotels to threaten foreigners. Many Europeans are leaving Palestine before the Cartoon War really starts.

Thanks. It is amazing that MSM doesn't point out the obvious here; that there is a huge difference between civilzed debate, civilized expression of differences of opinion and rioting that occurred long after the publication of innocuous cartoons.

Could it be because the "media" wants Christianity wiped out---and also wants the US wiped out (and so it loves the enemies of the US such as the muslims).

The media is in place to sell the leftwing line---i.e.

WIPE OUT the US and everything Western civilization has achieved.
