That is true. For some reason, people everywhere credit Islam with the resurgence in studies of Aristotle, etc. But it is Christian Spain that deserves the credit.
In the power void left by the collapse of Rome and the fragmentation of the Church under the Arian heresy, Islam took over ME areas that were very scientifically advanced and already studied Aristotle (Baghdad, for example) and in addition, invaded Spain, where Christians in Andalucia had been the one bright light in the Dark Ages.
The Dark Ages were the result of the invasion by Germanic barbarian tribes of Romanized parts of Europe, including Spain. During this time, Isidore of Sevilla - who is the patron saint of the Internet - published his compendium of all human knowledge, particularly focusing on Aristotle and the Greek scientist-philosophers. This was in the 7th century, less than 100 years before the Muslim invasion. He also was instrumental in defeating Arianism, the heresy upon which Islam is based.
The famous School (or Association) of Translators of Toledo was formed by Alfonso X, a Christian Spanish king who employed Christian, Jewish and Arab scholars in his translation of Scripture and ancient texts. Muslims, after their brief contact with Christian Classical scholarship, had given it up because more orthodox anti-knowledge Islamic groups from North Africa regarded them as corrupt and heretical and conquered them, also driving out the scholars.

Excellent read.
Glad you enjoyed it - pass the word! The more folks who understand this the better.
bttt (you are welcome)
Someone prominent needs to call these folks out on their history, knock them over their heads with it and then make them answer for it!
IMO.
(And it would help if that prominent someone has a strong security detail and national army to back him)

After watching these islamic MONSTERS stone to death women in a public arena, after watching the horrific antics of GROWN MEN, and their gleeful actions that would shame the crowd at Beyond Thunderdome - all the while shouting "Allah Ackbar" the next person tells me islam is a religion of peace...
Sorry for the run on sentence, I shaking with rage.
BUMP! Excellent.

Mullah Justice
This cartoon was originally posted on August 23, 2004 and is in our book Black & White World II.
The case of Atefah Sahaaleh depicted in the cartoon has received new attention on the release of an excellent BBC documentary, which can now be viewed at Google Video: Execution of a Teenage Girl. (hat tip Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzi)
Here's Michelle Malkin recent post on the topic:
Many readers across the pond are sending good reviews of a BBC program that aired this week about Atefah Sahaaleh, a 16-year-old girl hanged in a public square in the Iranian city of Neka. Her death sentence was imposed by Islamic mullahs for "crimes against chastity." I hope there's an American station out there that will air the program here. I'm sure that feminists will join me in pressuring our media to help spread the word about this sharia-mandated barbarism.UPDATE -- Aug. 11: For a detailed account of this crime, see the FrontPageMag symposium, Why the Mullahs Murdered Atefeh Rajabi, featuring Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzi.
Zand-Bonazzi: Well, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran's interpretation of the Shari'a (I don't know how it's interpreted or done in Arab countries) a woman is automatically the seductress, however young and innocent. According to them, a man, no matter how old and promiscuous, is considered to be a "victim." ...I should add that this Mullah was not only the Judge but also the executioner and he proudly hung the noose around her neck himself. After her execution, he said publicly that her punishment was not execution but he taught her a "lesson" because of her sharp tongue.

"tell all of your friends!"
Have you posted this on the Middle East Daily Thread? FR search "Middle East Daily 30" The thread has slowed a little, but you will be welcomed there.
I posted this on 03/22/2006, so wouldn't this be a little dated for a 'daily' thread?
And mightn't it get swallowed up in the size of it?
If I were to post there, would I just post a link, the whole thing, or what?
Thanks in advance.
One thing you may wish to consider is that the new thread will be up around 12:30 a.m. eastern time. If you want to try to get more of a response, you might want to wait until after the new thread goes up...or better yet, wait until morning to get optimum readership.
After my coffee, of course :')
Good. And I'll check in (after Mass, of course) :)
