Russian TV Journalist Found Dead
RadioFreeEurope ^ | 27 Feb. 2006

27 February 2006 -- Prosecutors in Moscow have opened an investigation into the killing of television journalist Ilya Zimin.

Zimin, an investigative reporter who worked with the NTV network, was found dead on 26 February in his apartment in the north of Moscow.

Prosecutors said he died after being severely beaten by unknown assailants. They said his death was not connected to his reporting work.

Before moving to Moscow in 2000, Zimin headed NTV's Far East bureau. He also worked for the TV6 and TVS television channels.

He survived a previous attack last April, when he was violently beaten outside the entrance to his apartment building.

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists has listed Russia among the world's 10 most-hazardous countries for reporters.

If lizol doesn't like ME pinging lizol with my comments it makes sense lizol wouldn't like YOU pinging lizol with my comments either.

I didn't see lizol or Kaiser80 say anything against Russia, until you posted your comment about Poles in your post #10, which was pulled.

You are the one who came on here and started attacking not lizol or Kaiser.

What is wrong with posting an article about the murder of a Russian journalist?

You evidently don't understand ,that it takes time to change your views on a country that repressed your freedoms for a long time or to trust that country.

I am German and I am well aware that Germany and Poland have a history together and that a lot of Poles are still resenting what happened during WWII,but I don't hold that against them, because they have a right to feel that way.

The Poles have achieved there goal of independence and are also an ally in the WOT or have you forgotten that?

Just because some Polish skinheads beat up some kids from Russia, doesn't mean that all Poles are the same.

There are skinheads all over the place ,even here in the US and they go out and beat up people, so does that mean that all Americans are the same or all Germans for that matter?

It's ok: According to Gerhard Schröder, Putin is a lupenreiner Demokrat, a "flawless democrat." So he must be completely innocent.

What is wrong is comments immeadiatly assuming that Putin had a hand in it when there isn't even a basis for his reporting contradicting Putin.

What is wrong is the slew of articles daily which a foreign nation posts in deliberate efforts to propagandize.

My problem is quite specifically with the Poles on FR (not poles in general) who out of hate for Russia post slanderous articles daily, in an attempt to sway the opinion of Americans. If you search Lizol's post it will be clear to you what Lizol says of Russians and Russia as well as Lizol's habit of popping up on any article involving Russia specifically to slander Russia.

Even recently when Russia was mentioned on a thread about Fiance Visas, Lizol showed up to make jokes.

Thank you for your words.

As far as I'm concerned (and many people I know) Germany is an ally and there are no hardfeelings. As to Russia, I have no hatred (as x5452 suggests) I'm only critical about Putin and Russian policy. That's all. The easiest way to reply is to say I hate Russia. It's easy because I'm a Pole.

To be fair you personally generally do not speak in hate terms, lizol and lukasz are rather imfamous for it.

I am not talking about other threads, I am talking about this one and neither lizol or kaiser 80 said anything against Russia in THIS thread.

The comments about Putin where made by other FReepers and some of the comments where made by non-POLES as well.

You are doing the same thing, you accuse the Polish FReepers of doing ,with one slight difference you attack them directly ,as where they attack a government, nation they still distrust.

....Lizol showed up to make jokes.

So what is wrong with making jokes?

I don't see jokes as slandering a country or people.

I have in fact begun posting negative articles on poland when I find them in fact at lizols request.

I long ago asked Lizol to quit posting articles specifically to slander Russia, after lizol refused and posted unabated and in fact more fiecly negative articles on Russia I pointed out I could do the same about Poland to which lizol responded bring it on.

Further, on another thread yesterday lizol insisted that skinheads were not involved in an attack in poland on Russian teens, so I was making a sarcastic joke in suggesting maybe they'd been involved in murdering a Russian journalist.

As for showing up on a thread about fiance visas and making jokes. My point is that Lizol follows myself and garyspfc onto threads which have nothing to do with poland or Russia, specifically to add snide remarks about Russia, and slander Russians.

Thank you for your kind words.:)

I am glad that we can put our past behind us and look forward to a brighter future.

I didn't think that you had hatred for Russia and the people itself.

There is nothing wrong with being critical of a nations leader and the policies.

I myself am critical about the policies and Putin, but that doesn't mean that I hate Russia.

It wasn't all to long ago, that we all were skeptical about Russia and it's role in the world and it still remains to be seen if we truly ever can trust a nation that used to be a communist country, but that is just my humble opinion.

My comment was worded vaguely, however I do not consider you to be amoung the poles on FR who engage in such behavior. (I should have been more specific in noting not all poles on FR engage in this).

I don't know whether you have any experience with x5452.

Some time ago I promised myself not to reply to his comments, as he's simply not a person, that I'd like to discuss with.

But it's not so easy to keep the promise, especially when I see slander and lies about myself being repeated over, and over again.

I'd say just like kaiser80, that I have nothing against Russian people, but I'm very, very crititical about Russian system and government (with special emphasis on Putin).

Actually I post many articles about Russia, but it will be hardly possible to find anything that would show my alleged hatred or disdain for the Russians.

As to being following anyone - If you have time and are interested - go through my threads, then through x5452's and compare who shows up more often where.

A perfect example of x5452's problem with Poland and the Poles is yesterday situation.

I admit - I post a lot of articles about Poland (actually most of them were posted by me. Some of them are probably more, some less interesting for a foreigner.
But no one has to read my thread, if finds it boring, right?

Yesterday I posted an article about rescued Polish coal-miner.

And guess what?

x5452 showed up only to comment:

(Are we going to get news on arrests in rural Polish towns now as well? this is really not big news)

As to Polish skinheads - mentioned by him - it was exactly this thread, where I cmomented anything about that issue yesterday (post #20). And this was in response to x5452's ridiculous post #10 (the removed one), in which he stated, that it were Polish skinheads responsible for that murder in Moscow.

Just pathetic, and I hope you'll understand, why I'm fed up with such "discussions" and childish games with him.

To be honest with you I don't see what the problem is,because no where in the FR rules have I seen that you have to post only positive articles about a country and if lizol's postings were/are a problem the MODS would have banned or suspended him by now.

As far as lizol following you to threads you can notify the Mods instead of playing childish back and forth attacks on each other.

Frankly, if I don't like a thread or article that I have read, I move on without posting and thus I avoid being stalked across threads or hurting any ones feelings.

You have to admit though, that the article was intriguing, since it wasn't an updated version and let you to speculate on, why the police would say that it doesn't appear to be work related.

How would the police know this, before an actual investigation was launched?

You didn't find that odd?

Of course now we know, that there is an investigation going on and that so far it seems to be personal, but this only came out after another FReeper posted the update.

Things like this happen all over FR, when it involves a crime,FReepers start speculating and then back off when the facts come out.

No big deal.

BTW,my posts to you weren't meant as an attack.I was just curious as to why you make statements that seem to insult Poles here on FR.

No hard feelings I am just trying to understand.

If someone were posting articles every day (frequently from left wing and fascist web sites) about how Germany was really still under Nazi control, and an enemy of the united states and this person wasn't even a US citizen perhaps you'd understand.

Um ...I have seen articles like that and I made my point without being insulting or generalizing or I ignored the posts all together after reading the article.

BTW,I got into a discussion with a German ,about insulting Poles in one of the more heated threads about German-Polish relationships, for the same thing you are doing.I also told the Polish FReeper, who in turn started calling Germans NAZIS {after being attacked) not to generalize and he agreed that he should not have done that.

I was not offended by that Polish Freepers comment, because it is a part of my countries past and history and because it was made in the heat of the moment.

What does citizenship have to do with ones opinions?

I am a German immigrant and am not a citizen of the US,but a Resident Alien ,so I don't understand why you are so upset about someones opinion on US policy regarding Russia.

After all you are not a Russian citizen,so it shouldn't upset you so much.

There are FReepers out there that don't always agree with this or that foreign Policy and they are Americans,I don't see you getting upset with them.

BTW,what is it with the Soros comments of yours?

Yes, I have been checking your posts and the posts of Lizol and Kaiser and I don't see any reason for you to get so upset over different views, feelings or opinions.

Some of the articles posted by lizol, weren't negative propaganda against Russia and I couldn't detect any hatred in his posts against Russia or Russians ,just a distrust of Putin and his policies and there is nothing wrong with that.

You see ,I have been here for a while and have seen a lot of controversial threads, posts and articles and I have had my fair share of discussions with people I don't necessarily agree with, but I have always been civilized in my posts.

BTW,you started the argument here and hijacked the thread long before Lizol or Kaiser showed up.

The comments regarding speculations of Putins involvement where posted by US citizen FReepers and not Polish FReepers.

If you don't believe me ,go back to the beginning of the thread and check for yourself.

We're not talking about isolated articles. We are talking about a coordinated effort.

As for citizenship, it is wrong for foreign citizens to be spamming FR in defense of George Soros, and anti-conservative, anti-American causes. (My problem with Soros is that he buys governments, funds abortion and gay rights, and gives scholarships to like minded individuals all across east europe)

Further it is wrong for them to call American war veterans traitors for defending the stance of the Secretary of State of the United States.

The majority of the Poles on FR are living in Poland.

Check Lizol, Grigorz, Lukasz, vox_pl, Stellar Dendrite, Tailgunner Joe, and spanalot.
