Hunger strike in Beslan. Eighth day. 4:07 PM Last night Svetlana Margiyeva became ill. Her temperature fell and she started to hallucinate. She started looking for her daughter Elvira who had died in the first explosion in the gymnasium. Sveta at that time was also wounded in the head and received a serious concussion. Now she is in the hospital and they have her on an IV. There was an article in the local paper 'Life on the Right Bank', which was against the hunger strike and the women. The chief editor of the paper, Elbrus Tedtov, wrote it. I've already written about him, his son Timur died in the terror act. The women are very disappointed, but I think that it's good. Now even Beslan nows about the hunger strike.

Hunger strike in Beslan. Day Eight. The took another woman to the hospital. Emilia Bzarova started feeling ill. The doctor came and diagnosed her with hypoglycemia (perhaps I am mistaken in how this word is written), which is an acute depression of the sugar in the blood. Her pusle was greater than 100 per minute (the norm is up to 80), a rapid heart rate. While we were dressing Emilia for the hospital she lost consciousness. Emilia drank little water during the 7 days.

(Last entry as of 19:05 Moscow time, 11:05 EST)

Two of the women have already been taken to the hospital. Recent developments:

The doctors came... They came and checked blood pressure. Marina Melikova's pulse is 110 per minute. Alma and Ella are doing okay for now. Emma has an arhythmia and her blood pressure is elevated.

Emma Betrozova, one of the protesting mothers of children who died in the September 2004 school massacre in Beslan shows photographs of children during a hunger strike in Beslan, February 15, 2006. Six mothers began a hunger strike last Thursday, the day after a top Russian prosecutor called for the death penalty to be imposed on Kulayev, the only person on trial over the massacre, to protest against the official investigation on the tragedy, which they say is too narrow. The above blog or 'Live Journal' is being written by a young lady who is staying with the women in Beslan. She shares articles and letters with them from her laptop, and they occasionally write something for her to post.

She goes to an Internet cafe to post her observations and download letters.

Her last posting was about the Russian parliament not supporting a motion to support a motion to support a motion (bureaucrats!):

http://befree77.livejournal.com/8514.html

On her site the commentary was as follows:

Nothing surprising there. It would have been strange if 'United Russia' supported it. But it's nice that Ryzhkov introduced it anyway.

Lena, do you know how Sveta Margiyeva is doing right now? I saw that he was doing bad, but I couldn't get through to Valiko yesterday. How is she?

She's in the hospital. She says she is in satisfactory condition, but we're more worried about Emilia Bzarova who they took to the hospital yesterday. She is very weak, and still won't eat. She refuses... We can't talk her into it right now.

We've got to initiate a recall of such members of parliament!

Thanks so much, Kyla.
I'm hoping to get out of the "bloggers" area and into the news.

Bumps and pings may help to that end.

Please ping your FRiends.

The plight of these poor mothers have been weighing heavy on my heart.

'Voice of Beslan' is a nongovernmental organization

That would be the same as signing a petition to support 9/11 Families, Jersey Girls.

Or a group of Cathy Sheehan's.

No, it's not the same.

These mothers want a "real" investigation into the massacre at Beslan.

They're not media dollar whores like Cindy Sheehan.

They are funded by the NGOs. Those monies come with terms and conditions for use. Those monies are grants, not donations.

The 9/11 victim groups, most are not even victims.

It is the same thing.
