I have an incredible story that I will publish because my military sources are 100%: "VP Cheney is stepping down for health reasons. He will be replaced by Senator Frist." I am attempting to get further confirmation.

If he actually steps down, the President nominates whoever he wants, subject to confirmation by the Senate. He doesn't have to go by the precedence list.

What is the order of succession if the VP steps down?The president nominates a replacement, to be confirmed by the Senate.
That's how Gerald Ford replaced Spiro Agnew, and Nelson Rockefeller replaced Gerald Ford.
