Really? Cuz it sounds like some people really believe this.
You use Bush the elder (a former VP and he who loves BJ Clinton) in an argument to dispel the case for elevating a candidate to VP to gain an election advantage? Interesting.
Yes, you do suspect correctly about GHWB. I don't care for him as a politician, or as a CIA man, or as a statesman.
My only point was that being VP has rarely helped candidates become president. And fwiw, while I don't personally remember GHWB's presidency, I don't think much of him as a president either.
I understand and I also appreciate what you're saying.
The bottom line is that I don't find it that hard to believe that a scenario like this could unfold, and if it does, it would, IMO, be a whole lot more beneficial for a Conservative that would be a good Presidential candidate in '08 to fill the spot than Frist.
Too bad you missed the "1,000 points of Light/NWO/Read My Lips" President. (end sarc)
This is such BS.
Gee kinda remember that Ford was the Speaker of the House and that is why he became President.
Why sure. We have plenty of Republican senators, we can spare one or two.
/ eye roll
Don't step in the BS!
"What is the order of succession if the VP steps down?"
None. Pres. nominates new VP. to be approved by Senate.
I agree also in the last couple of weeks he has emphasised both in his speeches and in TV interviews he intends to be there till the end of his term.
For example
Interview of the Vice President by Larry Kudlow, CNBC
Q Last question, sir, how do you feel? Are you ready for the battle ahead that's going to be on almost all fronts, international, economic, domestic and so forth? How are you feeling?
THE VICE PRESIDENT: I feel good, Larry. I've been very fortunate to have the opportunity to serve in this administration, and I look forward to the next three years as the President's number two man.

The GOP already does well in the urban areas of Alaska.
If you've been paying ANY attention at all to President Bush, you KNOW that he wouldn't 'throw Cheney overboard.'
Oh...OWF...you KNOW I pay attention to President Bush..I know he wouldn't..did you see what I posted??
Major Bump!
Frist?
not a chance in hell
I didn't think that the President was about to toss Cheney, either. I was thinking that it may be Lynne who is ill this time. She just didn't look like herself last night.
I I was him, I couldn't resist either. That would really stick in Hillary's craw.
"Run Condi!"
Yeah, run AWAY!
That idiot has no business being POTUS.
"Israel must make more concessions to the Arab terrorists who want to destroy it!"
"Israel, you better let Hamas run in the election!"
"Oh, Hamas actually WON? What a disaster!" (Yeah, YOUR disaster. Thanks Commie. I mean Condi.)
