Posted by Pennywise on Friday September 12, @04:51PM from the there-is-no-spoon dept. His Holiness the Dalai Lama recently made a surprising suggestion -- neuroscientists should turn to Buddhism and use meditation as a tool for investigating the mind. The suggestion comes as the Dalai Lama is set to speak to a sold out crowd at MIT tomorrow about bringing Buddhists and scientists together to explore the brain and mind. Scientists who have met the Dalai Lama say they have been struck at his openness to science. He has said he has been interested in science since he was a boy, when he took wristwatches apart and put them back together. "This is opening a secret body of rich knowledge that we have not had access to," said Marlene Behrmann, who is speaking at the conference and is a professor of psychology at Carnegie Mellon University. "It is a watershed."

For the territorialist hypocrite fascist Darwinists and ID haters, here's a spanking for you. The spiritualists can do science and reach self-sufficiency.
Don't you all bow to Mao now.
Wonder if they would have the pope at MIT? Probably not, wouldn't be PC.
Yeah, that was about the response from the Maoist Chinese complaining.
Note that the Lama is practical. HE seeks for things like cures for cancer, guinea pigging himself.
ID can be proven if its methods are used to help things like cancer. You know, something for those who want welfare all the time, who won't study it (supposedly) unless it works for them, like the Darwinists who want to control it all. Christians being more theoretical and vision oriented are relegated to another level of challenge in their beliefs. We shall see.

Hopefuly rhetorical bureaucracy and lawyers are not going to seek to own things through semantics and syntax here, but on substance. It's not because they do not understand it that it is illegal, after all.
JeA,
I would add that it is Christians who have gone to the small village that houses the Lama and his fellow monks who fled China and built a hospital and school. I would call that eminently practical. The Dali Lama has expressed his gratitude to them.
best,
