Answer the Constitutional question, where in the Bill of Rights is agreed to that our right to make our own health care choices is given to the government?
It's the media, they get at best about 25% of the simple facts correct. If getting the facts straight requires actual knowledge of some area of expertise, say computers or guns, then the percentage goes down from there.
So am I. For all of the fighting in this thread- I think it boils down to one thing:
Did Maye know that the people breaking into the room were cops? If he did not- then there is room for a Manslaughter charge at the most. Certainly not death row.
Based on the account and the information I've seen at this point- there is room for doubt. But there may be a lot more to this story -I suspect- than we're getting at this point.
If the facts are correctly reported, {usually a BIG if} I would vote to acquit also. And I currently have relatives active and retired in "law enforcement". I sure liked the term "policeman" or "peace officer" better.

They could have found the mother, who was not at the scene, and let her take the toddler. "Taking into custody" implies into jail, although it certainly could mean held in a police car until the mother could be located. However upon second reading, I think the juvenile mentioned may have been in the other part of the duplex and not the child of the guy who shot the policeman. Stories are so poorly written it's difficult to tell.
Cops out on revenue collection duties are revenue agents. The WOD is all about the revenue paid to those waging it. Revenue fits.
Cops out catching bank robbers and rapist cost the department money, and are well worth the cost.
Others are out to make the department money. It's all about the money.

Well then there are some basic similarities between those who volunteer to join the Swat Teams or the SS.
Both are volunteers, care little for individual rights, and both can say that they "are just doing their jobs".

Like I said when you are having to rely on second hand reports to make a judgment then it is helpful if the reports match.
"Maye's attorney tells me that after the trial, she spoke with two jurors by phone. She learned from them that the consensus among jurors was that Maye was convicted for two reasons. The first is that though they initially liked her, Maye's lawyer, the jury soured on her when, in her closing arguments, she intimated that if the jury showed no mercy for Maye, God might neglect to bestow mercy on them when they meet him in heaven. They said the second reason May was convicted was that the jury felt he'd been spoiled by his mother and grandmother, and wasn't very respectful of elders and authority figures. The facts of the case barely entered the picture. Gotta' love the South.
It gets weirder. Maye's family terminated his trial attorney after he was convicted. In her place, they hired a guy from California with no legal experience who convinced them that he'd had bad representation (given his lawyer's closing argument, he was probably on to something). The new fellow has since failed on several occasions to file the proper appeals."
