It's the media, they get at best about 25% of the simple facts correct. If getting the facts straight requires actual knowledge of some area of expertise, say computers or guns, then the percentage goes down from there.

Like I said when you are having to rely on second hand reports to make a judgment then it is helpful if the reports match.
