...don't know if communism is better than what we have. What I do know is that with all that relentless propaganda, "they" sure didn't want me to EVER consider communism except to condemn it. WHY did "they" never want me to think of communism except to condemn it? Hmmmm. Wonder what they were hiding about communism? And why they were so threatened by it?

They're comin' to take me away..hee-hee!
They're comin' to take me away..haa-haa,
To the funny farm where those nice young men in their long white coats.....

Good example. The left has as selective a memory today regarding quotes about foreign policy.
I hate revisionist history.
There is an excellent book on the subject of Communist photo manipulation (as well as Nazi manipulation): Making People Disappear : An Amazing Chronicle of Photographic Deception (Intelligence & National Security Library) by A. Jaubert.
Unfortunately, I seem to see many more copies of The Commissar Vanishes by David King which looks quite similar but omits the chapter on North Vietnamese propaganda (and I think the one on Cuban communist propaganda). I guess it isn't PC to point out flaws under those commies.

"when has true communism ever been attempted?"
That's one of the most fundamental problems inherent with socialism and specifically communism; the idea that it has failed only because it hasn't been properly applied.

Despite being a Pulitzer prize winner it is still very informational. That's a stretch, but I'll take your word for it.

Understand that Communism in America can only come from the overthrow of our constitutional form of government and you'll have a good start at rebutting any arguments they present.

If the DUmmies want to live under communism, why don't they frickin' move? Oh, I see, they know what's best for us and want ALL OF US living under communism.

The Crimes of Communism pale in comparison to the Acts of Evil that have been done by Plutocracies and Theocracies. Of course one can only arrive at this conclusion when they view a vibrant economy as an evil and murder by the tens of millions as acceptable.
i find the charms of democracy highly over rated.
And further down the post one indicated just such a shift...they don't care for the "charms" of democracy...that vibrant economy.

I felt she did a poor job of describing the horror of being in the Gulag system. A lot of the information was delivered in a matter-of-fact style.
One event that was covered by both books was the relocation of a large number of Ukrainian to an island in a river in Siberia. They were dropped off with no food, clothes, tools or means to survive and told to chop wood. They didn't have any saws or axes. Most of the people died of starvation or exposure. Black Book did a better job of describing the event.
