2006 Giuliani will have edge over both McCain and Clinton, and Senate Dems will struggle

The latest Rasmussen poll shows a three way race between Rudy Giuliani (26%), Condoleezza Rice (24%), and John McCain (21%). I think these numbers are somewhat striking in that Rice, who to date has shown no interest in running, is actually outpacing McCain. This is not good news for those preparing to board the “Straight Talk Express,” and really brings to light a deep resentment in the “Bush wing” of the Republican Party towards McCain’s well earned reputation as a maverick. He is also a gun grabber who screamed like dean about Florida allowing people to own guns.

The best that could be said about this left wing person is he talks ok.
And he fought crime. Of course I don't know how keeping people from having the means to protect themselves and their family is fighting crime.
He is as far left wing as most democrats.
If mclame or Rudy are forced down our throats, I will join the CP.

I just don't see it happening really
They know they need the "religious right" to win

And if you add anti-gun....

Unless they think Log Cabin Republicans will fill the religious right/2nd Amendament gap!

Since our judiciary has made itself supreme, and the other two, allegedly coequal branches have done nothing to stop them, it all comes down to the Courts.

A pro-choice candidate would be anathema for many in the party, but Giuliani has the 9-11 glow and heroism on his side that makes him a bit more palatable. Still, if it was thought that he'd appoint justices to the Sup Court who shares his culturally liberal values, then he'd have no chance. As such, the best thing Giuliani could do to enchance his chances in the primary, and then to turn out the socialcon base in Nov would be to promise to appoint justices in the mold of Scalia and Thomas.

I think alot of social conservatives would be willing to accept a Giuliani-type candidate if they were confident that he would at least be an ally in making the Courts neutral in the Culture War, and restoring judicial fidelity to the Constitution.

The same goes for McCain; he has fences to mend with social conservatives after going for media kudos and adulation when he attacked them in 2000. But he actually does have a fairly conservative career voting record, so a 'straight-talk' pledge to nominate judicial conservatives would serve him well.

Rice is a totally unproven political entity. She should run for office in California. If Dick Morris is correct (and he seems to be wrong at least as much as he is right) that only Rice can beat Hillary, then we have crossed a demographic line that spells doom for the GOP.

Not one of those three gets my vote. Two of them for not being conservatives and Condi for not having any experience in elective politics. Gimme Mike Pence or George Allen.

I guess you'd rather have a democrat than republican

HRC would beat the other two.

HRC won't beat any Republican up against her. The reality of the situation is, the Democrats are controlled by the kook fringe left, along with their leader Dean. If HRC "plays to the middle", which she will most certainly do, the largest portion of the Democrat party; that being the moveon.org types, and the anti-war, pro-abort kook fringe left, will not supoort her.

Bill Clinton was not anti-abortion...

BS he wasn't. He just managed to blur his liberalism and snookered too many.

yet won.

He won because Ross Perot was in the mix, who marginalized the Republican vote.

Giuliani is a bigger RINO than McCain, Giussolini is:
1. Pro-gun control
2. Pro-special rights for gays
3. Refused to enforce federal immigration laws at the local level, essentially declaring NYC a sanctuary city after the GOP congress passed stricter immigration laws in 1996.
4. Has ethics problems due to his association with Ray Harding and Bernard Kerick. Also has women problems and spent time living with a gay couple during his last divorce.
5. Did nothing to cut the most bloated local bureaucracy in the U.S.
6. Endorsed Mario Cuomo in 1994.
7. Is an a-shole

SAY NO TO RUINA GIUSSOLINI! At least McCain has a conservative voting record. GIULIANI IS OVERRATED!

1991: Bill Who?

1975: Jimmy Who?

Giussolini is just high right now because the press loves him and people just know the image. Let's not forget that the media's favorite RINO was about to get tossed until 9/11 happened.

BTW: Are you the guy who was banned a few weeks back after you were found to be trolling for Giuliani, rather than a legitimate Freeper?

I do not think that most of the country is moderate, because I believe that the word "moderate" basically describes a liberal who hasn't got as big a mouth as most liberals. Unfortunately many in this country are uninformed and that's why they describe themselves as "moderate" or "middle of the road" so they don't have to commit to anything.

Moderates are too squishy. They are busy trying to please everyone and that just isn't possible. That's why you have people like John McCain and Arlen Specter talking out of both sides of their mouths.

"When choosing between two fans of murdering the unborn, what's the difference?"

First realize that should the SC rule against Roe vs. Wade, most states will continue to allow abortions. That is generally understood.

Except for SC appointments, most Presidents have little impact on that single issue.

So the difference would be all of the other issues.

Many voters do consider more than one issue. National Defense would be an example of another issue, where the Republican would hopefully be stronger.

Spending, taxation and immigration would be other examples.

"What a ridiculous response"

Nothing ridiculous, at all.

In a general election, if the Republican and democrat candidates were both pro-choice, I suggest that pro-life voters should consider all of the other major issues.

If the voter favors the Republican for National Defense, spending, taxation and immigration, it would seem logical to vote based on those issues.

And that is not ridiculous.

I also consider more than one issue when voting. But there are three that I simply WILL NOT compromise on and abortion is one of them. The others are Illegal Immigration and Gun Control. I do not care that the President him or herself will not be making the decision on abortion. I made the choice long ago that to vote for politicians who are fans of murdering the unborn, makes me just as bad as if I murdered that child myself.
