The Vatican inspectors have their marching orders.
This past week, my alma mater, the Weston Jesuit School of Theology - which also serves as a seminary for Jesuit priests - was scheduled for its apostolic visitation.
The Vatican's instructions to its delegation are clear. One of the questions that must be answered includes, "Is there evidence of homosexuality in the seminary?"
What constitutes evidence of homosexuality in the new Vatican eyes is anybody's guess.
Perhaps, just as beauty is often in the eye of the beholder, so it might go for homosexuality in the church.
For more than five years, I immersed myself at Weston in theological studies both gay and Catholic.
I wrote a thesis advocating same-sex marriage, calling for both civil recognition and sacramental celebration by the church.
My presence and academic interests could easily be construed as "evidence of homosexuality."
Rome's local calling card comes under the leadership of Pope Benedict XVI, who seems obsessed with homosexuality and gays among the ranks of the clergy.
The new pontiff's unkind words about homosexuality - "objective disorder" and "intrinsic evil" - still sting.
But one thing seems certain: Despite Rome's best efforts to uproot gays, there will always be real live, flesh-and-blood homosexuals within the church, just as we are everywhere.
Increasingly, more of us inside and outside of divinity schools use the words gay and lesbian as an important way to affirm our personhood as a very good gift of God's wonderful creation.

This guy writes this, then wonders why the Vatican has problems with homosexuality. The Vatican doesn't want the corruptive nature of homosexuality corrupting and influencing the church.
Christianity is not an inclusive religion, it's exclusive to those people who desire to live within the bounds it sets.
I wonder sometimes if Mr. Colbert and people like him honestly think that their sin is ok with God, or if their real intent is to destroy Christianity.
Ping if you so desire.
Thanks for posting. What a freaking moron!!
Thank God for Pope Benedict XVI.
It is exclusive
to those who open their hearts
to Jesus when He
offers up Himself.
But you'd expect those who do
acknowledge they need
a Savior and who
acknowledge that Jesus Saves
would live by His Words . . .
A little about Chuck Colbert... militant, homosexual activist.
Chuck Colbert, a past president of the New England Chapter of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Ass'n (and current NLGJA board member) is a columnist with the New York Times Syndicate. His column A Sharper Focus appears regularly in IN Newsweekly. Colbert has also had numerous pieces published in The Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, Harvard Business Review, and National Catholic Reporter.

Amen.
One that gets expunged from every other species by design, except man.
That is a completely dishonest question. It avoids the homosexuals who are 'out' and proud of it in the seminary. Does this bozo clain he wouldn't notice them? What about the seminarians who proposition other men? How 'bout them Sherlock?
Denied truth always hurts eventually.
Another thing...
People like to say that Christians are targeting homosexuals, that Christians are on a gay witch hunt. They argue that other sins are ignored by the church.
If adulterers and fornicators started showing up at church and demanding the recognition, acceptance, and celebration of their lifestyle, I'm confident that the church would speak out against their behavior as much as it does against homosexual behavior.
The difference is that that group of sinners, along with alcoholics, drug addicts, porn addicts, pedophiles, pederasts, and a whole host of others, are not actively proclaiming their sins to the world. They have secret sins, and they're more than likely not proud of them.
I suppose it's only a matter of time, though, before we see some of them start claiming that they were born that way.
He asked the church to celebrate sin? I hope they kicked him out.
The new pontiff's unkind words about homosexuality - "objective disorder" and "intrinsic evil" - still sting.
LOL If you think that stings, wait till you see what awaits you. Repent while you still can!
If you want on/off the ping list let me and little jeremiah know.
Exactly. I'll say it again, "Thank God for Pope Benedict XVI."
I'll get it it in a while - must run out the door in a minute.
That's something I've often wondered myself. I think, though, in the majority of people like him, they are actually so self-deluded that they are "sincere" in thinking that God approves of them. Of course, the have no clue of the real nature of God, or what unconditional love really means.
A true godly person is humble and thinks himself unworthy, even though free of fault. A hypocrite thinks himself better than others, even though steeped in sin.
Crazy. I'm currently overwhelmed by all the weirdness. I need to read some inspirtational stuff for a while instead of all the sicko bad news all the time.
:-(
Well old Chuckie here is an admitted gay who likes to cause problems within the Catholic church:

Sit down and be quiet
Its nice to see nothing has changed while I was gone. A gay man disrupted Mass at a Boston-area parish on Sunday morning. This actually happened in the parish where I grew up, St. John the Evangelist, in Canton, Mass. After the homily, the pastor, Fr. Michael Doyle, showed an eight-minute homily from the Massachusetts Catholic Conference about the gay marriage debate, which the state Constitutional Convention will take up again tomorrow.
One Chuck Colbert, a self-described gay Catholic, couldnt take it any more, so he stood up and voiced his displeasure. In his own words, he said he introduced himself as a gay Catholic and protested the Churchs teachings. While he was being shouted down by several parishioners, Fr. Doyle went to call the cops. You know, for the pastor to come down out of the sanctuary and go to the rectory to call the police says to me that this wasnt a minor disruption, but a big one that threatened to get out of control.
By the way, want to guess what Colbert does for a living? According to the AP article: Colbert is a freelance writer who regularly contributes stories published in the National Catholic Reporter, an independent weekly paper that has endorsed same-sex marriage. Color me surprised! What an ultra-maroon!
The archdiocese tells us that Colbert probably planned the stunt. Hes not a parishioner, and admits that he was alerted to the video beforehand and lamely claims that hes free to attend any Mass.
A final note: The other parish in Canton, St. Gerard, didnt get a copy of the video. No surprise there. Fr. McLaughlin and the parish got a fawning multi-part profile in the Boston Globe in 2002 for how it is dealing with the Scandal. Methinks they wouldnt have shown the video if they even got a copy.

If you think that's bad, you should read scripture, Chuckie.
God didn't create fecal recreation. The sins of Man did. Big difference.
