Free Republic's Roots

Founded in 1996 by Jim Robinson, what is FreeRepublic about?

What is our mission? Free Republic is dedicated to reversing the trend of unconstitutional government expansion and is advocating a complete restoration of our constitutional republic. Listed below are some of the issues we feel strongly about...

A return to a strictly Constitutional form of federal government will automatically repeal and abolish all unconstitutional federal involvement in states issues such as: crime, health, education, welfare and the environment...This will also require that social programs such as Social Security, welfare and Medicare be repealed. ~~ Jim Robinson, March 1999

Statement by the founder of Free Republic:

In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side...We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism... Free Republic's Next Triumph

The excerpts above were taken from existing or former webpages posted by Jim Robinson. Having been a member of FreeRepublic before the 1996 election, the mission statement once included the impeachment of Bill Clinton as one of FreeRepublic's goals, a goal the House Managers credited FreeRepublic with achieving. Now, after ten years of false starts and misfires, the second and third goals as stated in FreeRepublic's Mission Statement above, 2reversing the trend of unconstitutional government expansion and 3complete restoration of our constitutional republic, are finally within reach. Over the next several weeks, various Freepers will be posting the thinking and the mechanics behind this effort.

Those of you who have been Freepers long enough know that FreeRepublic played a pivotal role in generating the momentum and emotion that led to a successful vote in the House to Impeach then President Bill Clinton. Reversing the trend of unconstitutional government expansion and bringing about the complete restoration of our constitutional republic could depend on how effective Freepers and FreeRepublic prove to be in generating the kind of momentum and emotion that FreeRepublic produced during impeachment.

Jim Robinson and the members of FreeRepublic are owed an immense debt of gratitude by Freedom loving Americans. You are all Patriots in the true sense of the word. We thank you; we Salute you. And now we ask for your help in undertaking the most important part of FreeRepublic's acknowledged mission.

Our Challenge To You:

If you don't believe or cannot accept the idea that this plan can and will work, the burden of proof is on you to either improve it or put forward a replacement that is better. FreeRepublic has a long overdue mission to complete. In spite of some readily apparent Republican and conservative gains, it can be argued that we are not measurably closer to the objective than when FreeRepublic was founded. Those who would take issue with this claim should stop and consider that the unconstitutional entitlements are poised to grow exponentially over the next two decades. Get out your ping lists, start reviewing your address books and email lists, and start thinking about the people with whom you want to share this series as it unfolds or with whom you want to share it after it is complete and you are convinced.

Our Pledge to You:

And for the support of this mission, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, We, as members of We the people pledge to the members of FreeRepublic and mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

There is little you wrote that I disagree with, but your method won't work...at this point.

Here is where you make your mistake. Your plan assume RINO's get elected because that is the only candidate presented to voters and the solution is to help real conservatives win the primary.

You're putting the cart before the horse.

Have you considered that RINO's might be getting elected because that is the only conservative candidate electable in that district? Do you honestly believe that today a Bob Dornan (insert your fav conservative) could get elected in many of the RINO heavy states of the Northeast? He can't. The voters there lean right on economic issues but left on many social issues, particularly those involving abortion and social programs. Presenting a Bob Dornan type there as the pub candidate will only insure a Dem victory because voters want a moderate.

Before you can elect true conservatives in those RINO districts you have to change the minds and hearts of voters who pull the lever.

We have had forty years of propaganda and lies being told to the voters by our media. They have infested our educational institutions to manipulate the minds of children and are churning out millions of mush headed liberal leaning graduates every years. It can take up to twenty years to undo that damage.

They spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year in thousands of liberal non profits, foundations and institutions to manipulate the opinions of voters and get thermo elect their candidates.

Before you can run and elect more conservatives (not to mention turning dem districts around) you have to change the attitudes and perceptions of the electorate. In other words you have to prepare the ground to make electing conservatives a probability.

This means balancing the main stream media, getting an equal voice in schools and on college campuses, their administrations and faculties, and defunding their ability to propagandize to the public.

Once that is done, putting your plan of electing true more conservatives to public office will be a possibility.

"Whoever you all are, you're charlatans."

Slow down Judith Anne. You can read, but you jump to your own preconceived conclusions instead of actually thinking through the implications of what you have read. Rather than leaping to conclusions, stop and take one step at a time, think it through and try to consider the ramifications of each step. How would it effect politicians in office? How would it modify their next campaign? How would it effect voters? What will be the ultimate effect on the behavior of government by changing how politicians think and react to the last election cycle? Take them one at a time:

One other thing about our being charlatans or frauds in regard to soliciting the $600 million. If you had bothered to read and understand what is there, you would note that one of our group has offered to give Rush an idea that could provide $200 million annually that could be used to fund our Reagan Wing candidates. Alternativelly, the business based on that idea could be sold and the billion or so raised from the sale could be used for funding Reagan Wing candidates. Not one of us has or is going to ask you for a dime. We believe, however, that once Rush and his listeners recognize the potential of the Reagan Wing, that money will begin to flow spontaneously to the Reagan Wing from Rush's audience and other conservatives who recognize the importance and the potential of this project.

Many elections have been won with fifteen second sound bytes. "It's the economy, stupid," comes quickly to mind. Restoring the Constitution is going to take more than fifteen second sound bytes. The record of failures over the last seventy years is a testament to the fact that it is going to take a carefully reasoned logical effort to defeat the socialists. I don't for a minute think Judith Anne is stupid, but it is time to put irresponsible, thoughtless remarks aside and start focusing on the task of completing FreeRepublic's mission.

Will you take The Pledge?

This "group" says that Rush Limbaugh is in a unique position to tap for donations of 400-600 MILLION per election cycle.

Then in the next paragraph, "they" say that private efforts to contact Rush for over 5 years have failed. So they want FReepers to talk it up, since "they" think Rush or some of his family or staff monitor FR. And supposedly, FReepers are going to be so enthusiastic about this "plan" that Rush will bow to the call and help "them" start up the Reagan wing of the Republican Party or some damn thing, to get rid of the RINOs and elect REAL Republicans. They'll decide who is a REAL Republican.

That's a very cynical ploy for using FR for self-enrichment. I am coming to despise this unknown, unresponsive "group."

So far, there are a lot of names being slung around by this poster--Jim Robinson, Rush Limbaugh, and Ronald Reagan.

Jim Robinson is silent, Rush Limbaugh blew him off for the last 5 years, and Ronald Reagan is in heaven. That just leaves FReepers to do his heavy lifting. I say, "phooey!"

For all we know, it's John effen Kerry.

Bull. Sheer, unadulterated bull.

I'm a libertarian.

Ownership and property rights are so important. The recent starvation in Zimbabwe when as Rhodesia they exported food shows the importance of property. Who invests in seed, irrigates, weeds and tends a crop if they do not know they will be the one to harvest.

Who would invest in Haiti? And why not? Your investment is at risk. In Zimbabwe 40% of their fields lie fallow... people starve and their dictator sends food aid to his army.

Where I differ with today's conservatives is this. If you do not own your body, you are not free.

Once kids sat on the riverbank smoking pot. Now they use meth. Why is that? If pot were legal or had minimum punishment like booze, pot would not have entered the hands of the black market. Black markets figure out ways to make their products more potent, smaller, and easier to make... ergo meth.

Got to get to work... Thanks for posting the above.

I have had a short email exchange with these people and the radar is going nuts. It's like they don't read anything I send. I keep getting the same mantra back in a zombie like fashion.

I suggest they not be taken seriously until they reveal who they are and what their history is.

"Jim Robinson is silent, Rush Limbaugh blew him off for the last 5 years, and Ronald Reagan is in heaven...For all we know, it's John effen Kerry.

I hope other Freepers are more thoughtful than Judith Anne. First she looks to others to tell her what to think or believe. And before she denies this statement, consider the second part of her own statement, "For all (she) knows, the article is written by John effen Kerry." It is easy to understand that she has to rely on the opinions of others if she can't tell the difference in the agenda being outlined in Free Republic and Freedom and Free Republic's Roots. I would be willing to bet that half of the Democrats lurking on this site can tell the difference.

One of my favorite stories was told by a Texas doctor. Three surgeons were drinking coffee discussing their favorite patients. The first surgeon said, "I love operating on Japanese people. You cut them open and all the internal organs are color coded. You just sew green to green and red to red."

The second surgeon said he preferred operating on Germans. "You cut them open and all of their organs are numbered. You just sew the one to the two and the two to the three."

The third surgeon said he preferred operating on Democrats. "Democrats only have two moving parts, their mouths and their a$$ holes. And they are interchangeable."

Judith Anne,
Do you honestly believe that anybody is trying to fool you. And before you answer, please take the time to consider my tag line.

You propose a project of gargantuan proportions, you ask people to get you in touch with Rush (heheh)...but you won't reveal who you are or what your history contains. Even in private email.

Are you nutz? All the stuff you've written may be spot on but I wouldn't touch you with a ten foot pole. Too much mystery and intrigue.

I don't get it--I'm supposed to change my mind based on a joke that makes a point that has nothing to do with the poster(s) who have come up with this nutso idea, or the idea itself?

Freaking pie in the sky lunatics.

It's not really nutso, Newt tried it with GOPAC and Steve Moore at Club for Growth, both had success and failures. Dems have been doing it for decades, Emily's List, etc. Pacs are a dime a dozen.

But all these people started with recognized and respected names, connections and the financial seed money to get it off the ground. I see none of that here. It maybe a great idea from sincere people, but until more details are offered no one is going to pledge their life, fortune and sacred honor.

Lord, give me a break.

One more item, I don't know if they are aware of how difficult it is getting conservative groups together on anything. FR is repeatedly split apart by bickering and petty rivalries, most conservative orgs jealously protect their turfs (especially when it comes to money) and as a group we are distrusting and cynical.

Starting a movement off with "we won't give you are names, you'll just have to trust us" is suicidal.
