IMO, women are their own worst enemies.

In some respects, you are right there. Sometimes women do not help each other. And, too often women who do outstanding work do not understand the value of promoting themselves in their profession. They bristle at the suggetion that they, for example, have a WEB SITE, or participate in anything ONLINE. These kind of women are like death knells for other women who are trying to make it or learn.

I enjoyed reading all your posts. And, I especially liked what you said here:

I applaud the action of this one woman who stood up and spoke out.

I applaud her, too. A lot. Because too often silence isn't golden -- it's deadly for women in the work place.

But what I like even more is this: the result of her actions. Instead of her getting fired for speaking out -- which can happen -- that guy/jerk had to resign. DEATH BY BLOG FOR HIM. That is still my favorite part of this saga.

And, by he way -- while it may seem I am literally rejoicing over Neil French suffering a DEATH BY BLOG (and, I am rejoicing in that), maybe I need to qualify something for you and other men reading this thread: I don't feel that way about all way.

And, I especially do not feel that way about men I have worked for, or with, and I have worked with MANY men on a professional level. Yes, we are all human, and we all make mistakes, men and women alike, but I know of MANY PEOPLE, men and women, who would choose a man over a woman boss every time. I am not sure why this is, but I know it to be true, and I don't mean to slight women by saying that.

Finally, the one and only gripe I have had with some men I have worked with -- and this is true for more than one man, I might add -- is that I believe the did not marry well. They are not appreciate enough at home. In short, their own wives do not appreciate these type of men nearly as much as they should.

The wives of these particular men -- in my view -- should have spent some time being single, working in the work place on their own, finding their own apartments on their salaries, etc., and then, they might see their husbands in a brand new light.

And, that is not meant as a slight to all women, either. Some women are great, some are not; some men are great, some are not.

Right after I typed my post #103, and logged off, I also remembered this type of situation: the woman who makes a good living -- but is married to an unemployed, dead-beat kind of guy, and he has no interest whatsoever in ever earning a paycheck. So, the good and bad goes both ways...

i suppose raising our children doesnt qualify as a job?

did it ever occur to you that "mommies who never had a job" can and DO all the time raise thier daughters (and sons) to believe in themselves and that they can do anything they set their mind to?

what planet do you live on where only an upperlevel position or CEO mom is capable of teaching the "proper mindset"?

from your posts, i would say this is not a good mindset for our young women at all. blaming "evil white men" "cooperations" or folks like mr french, as the reason they cant "make it" is nothing more than teaching them to be victims.
this sounds like feminist clap trap to me.

what is wrong with staying home, taking care of your husband and children? you act as if a woman cant make ceo or one up a man, then life is less meaningful.

i have read all of your posts and while you seem to have "corrected" yourself toward the end, it is contradictory to all your previous posts.

i am wondering if you wouldnt recieve a better reception over at DU.

>No one demanded that the guy quit...
"A well-known ... worldwide creative director at WPP Group resigned his position ...over remarks he made at an industry event about female creative executives"

----------------------------------------------------------

He didn't resign
because the angry gals thought
he should get a raise.

I repeat, no one demanded that he quit.

But actions have consequences, sir. In his case, his schtick was getting old and overplayed. The advertising world is fast-paced and he wasn't keeping up with it. This ain't 1961 no mo', as much as guys like y'all want it to be. ;)

Mommies who have never had a job in the outside workplace can be wonderful people, of course, and blessed with wisdom -- but it doesn't mean they have as much inside knowledge about the Word of Work in the Work Place Outside The Home as someone else who has been there. Get over yourself. You sound like you need a vacation.

Here's what george wrote on the thread:

I disagree with you.

He's being hounded by stating his opinion, not by denying any woman's right to work.

As a matter of fact, he has been instrumental in helping several women succeed in their chosen field.

He will continue to succeed, since he's a genious. The losers are the people involved in the witch hunt

Now, here's what george doesn't seem to understand: when someone in this guy's position -- and, he was at the very top of the heap -- states an "opinion" as derogatory to women as he did, it is not merely an "opinion." It is called something else: an expert opinion.

So, if he were to have stayed in his job, then, a lot of people BELOW his TOP OF THE HEAP position would be able to justify their continued discrimination aainst women in that industry by saying: Well, look at Neil French and what he said about women in top creative positions. So, we don't have to give a qualified woman a fair chance.

That's why Neil French is OUT.

Now, I would be curious to know what you think of the excerpt I posted on the thread about the way musicians in symphonies are now hired -- by MERIT. I know conservatives do believe in MERIT. That's what I believe it, too. That's why it doesn't bother me how many people misundertand why I posted this article. MERIT is what counts. Not a macho crap attitude or any other attitude. MERIT. TO GET THE JOB DONE WELL. I think George would feel the same way on that, and if so, I would agree with him, too.

Se post #72 if you're interested in how they NOW hire symphony musicians - BLINDLY, based ONLY on HOW WELL THEY PLAY.

Here's the URL to this front page NYT Business section article:

If you read the whole article, you'd discover that most people right here on this forum have more writing experience than he did when he got his first copywriting job in advertising. Here's his professional background before his macho attitude, and no doubt, a few guy pals, helped him start earning his mega-buck salary:

Mr. French is often called one of advertising's best copywriters and is known within the industry for his colorful past as a bullfighter, nightclub owner, and manager of the heavy metal band Judas Priest. His reputation is built in part on his knack for streamlining print advertising copy. Among the advertising campaigns he worked on were Chivas Regal, Air Asia and Campbell Soup.

And, good for him that he was one of the "best" copywriters -- but, you see, first: he needed this thing that many qualified women do not ever get, and that "thing" is called A CHANCE.

That's what a person needs FIRST - and that's often NOT what a qualified woman gets.

That might come as news
to modern composers who
hear their work performed!
