The following is an email I sent to Dr. Paul Ash this dealing with his Lexington, MA schoolboard refusing notification to parents of elementary school children as they teach “tolerance” for homosexuality. I am deeply concerned about this issue- ( I’ve found the old “role reversal” technique to sometimes be effective.)

Mr. Ash,

I've recently been informed of the "battle" taking place in your school district over which you preside. It must be difficult fielding the calls, requests for interviews, and threatening speech. Hang in there!

I fully understand the importance of a child (or anyone for that matter) to made aware of the fact that we live in a truly diverse country made up of every type of person be it race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc.

I am enjoying watching my 3 year old daughter grow up. She is so smart and full of wit who has the face of an angel and a great sense of humor. What a gift, privilege, and responsibility I've been given.

Since you and I have never formally met, I don't know whether or not you have elementary grade children. Maybe yours are already grown or maybe you have none. Either way, please consider the following possibility that may help shed even more light on the situation your currently find yourself in:

I have joined a very fast growing coalition (I had no prior knowledge of the coalition's large numbers before joining) committed this very important cause.

For the sake of this email - I'm going to assume you have small kids (elementary).

We are petitioning for state legislation to be passed that makes it legal (under the Constitution) to do the following in the name of tolerance:

1) Because of the teaching of the theory of evolution and the overwhelming numbers of Americans who believe in Darwin's theory, our coalition is sensitive to those groups (mainly the right-winged Evangelicals) who teach their children the theory of creationism. Therefore, we think it appropriate, and a child's constitutional right, to send literature (underwritten by groups such as "Answers in Genesis" and "Focus on the Family") to all children without interference from the parent.

2) The parent will have no jurisdiction in this area. The children will receive weekly mailings, addressed to them personally, which outline in detail the biblical viewpoint of creationism along with archaeological and empirical evidence provided by AIG and FoF. The sole purpose of the mailing the information is not to educate your child on creationism, rather, it is to raise awareness that there are people they will find at school and in their neighborhoods who need to not only be accepted, but celebrated for their sincere, yet grossly misguided views.

To reiterate, the parent is to attempt no interference. In the event the parent or legal guardian makes any attempt to read the educational material regarding tolerance for Creationists prior to the child's reading, they will be arrested.
