It was phenomenal. It had taken our analysts hours of careful work to make comparisons. It seemed that these analysts or commentators -- or whatever they were -- were coming up with long treatises in minutes.

The fact that the fakery could be so easily and quickly detected by anybody who bothers to pay attention to the facts just makes Mapes' position all the more untenable. Trying to pass off these documents as genuine 1973 memos is like trying to pass off Plan Nine From Outer Space stills as actual UFO photographs.

Maybe it isn't just me. Perhaps a large number of Americans (those who actually work) have access to filing cabinets and bankers' boxes full of authentic 1970s documents- none of which have proportional spacing or those nifty little superscripts. Perhaps this is why the bloggers' arguments were so persuasive- they were and are verifiable.
And I challenge anyone to create proportional fonts or superscripts by using a fax machine or copier. You can do it with a scanner, of course- if your intent is to deliberately make the documents less authentic.
That section was full of bald-faced lies.

You should contact Mary Mapes' publisher, 'cause I can't see reading her book without your commentary.

Her book will FLOP bigtime. The only way for the publisher to make a MINT on the book is to publish Mapes' fiction in Bolshevik Red followed by the commentary of your humble correspondent in the [brackets]. Oh and I would also like to see a CD-ROM insert included which would contain MANY hyperlinks to easily found info on the Web that completely contradicts her. I did some of that in this DUFU but I would LOVE to take on the ENTIRE book.

I just checked Amazon.com to see if they had put up any user/reader comment. To my surprise, not only have they not put up any comments, but they have excerpted their excerpt. There are no paragraphs and it ENDS at: "I was online visiting web sites I had never heard of before: Free Republic, Little Green Footballs, Powerline." Amazon should know the long memory of the Internet. The original is already captured here for posterity. Good work on many levels, PJ!!

Check again. They have take down the ENTIRE excerpt. The only place you can now read it is here in the DUFUs. I'll tell you what probably happened. Mary Mapes found out what laughingstock material she provided to the DUFUs and demanded that Amazon remove it.

Amazon has taken down her ENTIRE excerpt after this DUFU was published. I am almost positive that Mary Mapes herself went BERSERK when she read this DUFU and demanded that Amazon remove her laughingstock material.
