Tradesport has had a big run today on Michael Luttig to be the next Supreme Court nominee. He has moved up from a 30-1 longshot to the favorite.
Yes, Tradesport did such a great job with the last pick. LOL. I bet you it will be a woman or minority (or both).
Pretty amazing how 3 mins of commentary by Bill Kristol could move odds like that
Actually, Tradesport picked up Roberts 2 hours before it was announced in the news.
Now is not the time to try to avoid a fight, now is the time to make the Democrats put all their cards on the table. As the Democrats threaten to filibuster the President if he chooses to nominate a Judge who is too conservative, I say make them. The worst thing Bush can do now is to back down and nominate a moderate. If the Democrats put up a big fight, maybe just maybe it will give the GOP the balls next time to fight a liberal judge nominee. The spineless GOP let ACLU lawyer liberal extremist Ruth Bater Ginsburg a free pass when Clinton appointed her.
If Bush forces the Democrats to raise the bar and use a filibuster on a Supreme Court nomination, that should give even the most limp-wristed GOP Senators the courage to fight should a Democrat be President anytime soon. That should mean no more ACLU lawyers making it to the Supreme Court. The GOP should be able to nuke such a filibuster and perhaps get another strong conservative on the court. Now is not the time for a stealth conservative or heaven forbid some moderate. Now is the time to call the Democrats out.
Tradesports is nothing but a facilitator.
"They" do nothing...players are the only ones that move the odds.
So how do they (TS) prevent "insider trading" in outcomes
that might actually be known to a number of people?
Not that I suspect any foul play here, but it's risky to
run a pool on some eventuality that is not random, and not
determined by uncontrolled masses (like elections).
Luttig Boomlet
Dutch Porn star?
YOu're not seeing double, this just deserves repeating!
It's what WE NEED to see!
If GW wants to see how fired up his base can get, now is
the time, we didn't elect him to "get along" in a new "tone".
We expected him to confront the liberal bastards at every
turn.
NOW IS THE TIME!

LOL!
"Actually, Tradesport picked up Roberts 2 hours before it was announced in the news."
6 minutes.
"Roberts first jumped up to a price of 30% at 6:48ET (about an hour before AP broke the story), Edith Jones was then trading at about 35.7%, so Roberts was then running a close second to Jones. Roberts briefly became the favorite at 41.9% at 7pm (and his next 5 trades were 38% or above), after which he remained one of the favorites along with Jones and Luttig until 7:40 when he overtook both of them for good to trade at 25. Roberts rose to about 30 at 7:43, 30-55 at 7:44, 50-55 at 7:45, and he jumped from 60 to 90 at 7:46...At 7:46pm AP/NBC report that Roberts was the nominee."
So tradesports had Roberts as one of the top 3. With significant fluctuations all day.
According to your link 2 Clinton appointees joined Luttig. There is nothing here.
I didn't mean that the decision is a "smoking gun" that can be used to "Bork" Luttig.
What I meant was that it establishes an "area of concern" (especially in view of Luttig's other strongly "pro-government" rulings in terrorism cases,) so that Luttig's views and attitudes in this area will be vigourously investigated by the opposition, will inspire the questioning of the nominee, and will serve as the basis of fear-mongering aginst him.
In other words, the line won't be that the cited decision disqualifies him, but rather that it fails to confirm a proper appreciation of the rights of citizens. The fact that the other two Clinton appointees aggreed will be ignored for the following reasons: 1) they aren't being considered for the Supreme Court, 2) they're supposedly Liberal, and so don't need to "prove" anything, and 3) it's the best avenue of attack they'll be able to find.
Interesting...
Erick at Redstate just said the following:
"We can all laugh about it. Like a stopped clock, I can on occasion get things right. So, we all know how to treat things for what they are worth.
But, give the sources their due. They have adamantly and pointedly and consistently said they have no freaking clue. They've heard the names and they've kept up with the chatter, but as for venturing their own guesses for who the nominee will be, they've bee honest.
So, I consider this a turning point. My friend in the White House thinks that they next nominee will be from the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals -- Luttig or Williams. "
A court blogging site also says:
'But as A3G recently observed, the SCOTUS nomination of Judge J. Michael Luttig (4th Cir.) is starting to look inevitable. In light of poll results like this, which suggest that "few Americans see [diversity] as an essential quality of the next nominee," it's looking increasingly likely that John Roberts will be joined on the bench by his good friend and former groomsman, Mike Luttig."
