Something like that.
Interesting. We do have some overcrowded schools here. Most elementaries around here have about 800-1000 students, though one nearby elementary had well over 1000 students (people moving in so fast). They had 10 kindergarten classes and had to move them to a nearby middle school. Most high schools have about 2000 or so. Our nearby high school, a pretty good one, has about 2300. My high school back home has over 3000 students and has about tripled in size since I graduated in the 80's. They will probably build a new one, but public opinion has dragged a little bit on that because the high school is such a community center--a lot of people, even without kids in the school, go to football games and such. The teachers are often previous graduates from years past and often make strong community contributions as well.
When I first started out, I lived in a small town and yes, it was like that, we all got on one bus. It took well over an hour, but I didn't mind. I thought it was kind of fun. Besides, I had a "girlfriend" that was a senior in high school. She even bought me bubbles once. :)
Thought I hit the button to reply to SFRepublican, sorry....still, no reason to call me Pedro....I'm born and bred Southern Georgian, generations back to the War Between the States and before....the only 'Pedros' here are the ones from Mexico making carpet and building houses....
And that is the point of my argument...buses, if they are gas fueled would save gas, AND if the chilren aren't DRIVEN to school (yes, even the ones who can stay home unattended), then SOME gas would be saved......

Like Mr. Abbott, the attorney general of Texas said: "you'll know it when you see it."
Report any incidents you "think" are price gouging and the State of Texas will investigate and make a determination. Good enough for me.
Well, to me, there's a big difference between the market setting the price and individuals who want to screw over their fellow man during a natural disaster because (to quote Clinton) "they can."
But I guess that's just me.
Simple question. What is a fair profit margin?
Unfortunately it isn't simple...just cause you think so.
I made no comment on the quality of character of the people setting prices. Just that they should be allowed to do it, mostly unfettered by the government.
But I did make a comment on the character of the people who would charge more to their fellow man in a time of need.
That's the point of having price gouging laws...for those who take advantage in a time of need.
It has nothing AT ALL to do with law of supply and demand.
The supply was there - they just charged more for it than necessary because they are pieces of CRAP! Got it?
This was not a good idea...Today, I had to drive my child twice as far for childcare and several people in our office missed time at work to stay home with their child. They're also counting it as a "snow day" which means if we actually do get any inclement weather this year, they'll have to make it up.
Stupid, Sonny. Really stupid.
Yeah well, maybe businesses ought to take note. Conservatives are shutting down government services. You think there might be a REAL reason????? Clue in, and do your part.
Do you have any idea how much he lowered demand for gasoline statewide. Based on where Rita was heading he did the right thing.
Glad that not all Americans share your pioneer spirit of being inconvenienced.
Then we disagree. I think businesses should be allowed to set their own price. I will base my shopping decisions on what those prices are and the circumstances of my need. the government should have a very limited role.
Go read up on the gas shortage of 1979, if you are unfamiliar with it. It started with price caps, led to rationing, long lines, and finally shortage. If you want real conservation, higher prices is one of the few things that will accomplish it.
Yes we disagree.
They can set their own price but that price must be reasonable .
For some goods, if it is not reasonable, customers will not buy "optional" items and pay the high prices. However, we are talking about things that people need in an emergency situation (not all the time). If people charge more and screw over their fellow American, I say throw the book at them! They are scum.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
