Is this confirmed? It's not on the CNN website. I just emailed my family in Atlanta and they hadn't heard it.

smart move by Perdue. he should also encourage businesses to let their workers who can telecommute - to do so. this should be a national effort led by the president, in addition to cutting postal delivery to 4 days per week, and making federal workers work 4x10 weeks.

The pipeline feeding Georgia was shut down during Katrina.

Many idjits heard the news and ran out to top off their tank.

Causing just about double the gasoline usageat the exact time when the supply had been cut off.

Hard to see where raising the price did anything other than cause the demand to slacken off.

How could the teachers give the assignments when they had no notice? My children were kept late so they could print off parent notices, as they were informed the moment school was supposed to be out.

Good point. I hate preparing for a substitute which is one reason I've only averaged about missing one day a year and have never called in sick during 10 years of teaching.

I took the bus a little over a mile to our neighborhood school. That was over thirty years ago. Most busing is not a liberal plot.

Yup. Gas went up 20 cents here today. I put $30 dollars in last night, 'cuz I was out. And we have to go out of town this weekend, so I went back and got another $30 to fill it up, just in case the well runs dry LOL. Darned if there wasn't a car at every pump.

State is required by law to provide transportation for every child who lives more than 7/10 mile from school. This means 90% of students in state are intitled to buses.

EGADS!!!!! 7/10 of a mile???? It's about 1.2 miles here.

Georgia gets its fuel from pipelines in the area of these hurricanes. They ran low on fuel in Katrina and I guess he's planning ahead this time. Until Rita passes and people get back to work, what is in the pipeline is all there is.

Some of the teachers have websites where they update homework assignments or class notes. There is an automatic feature available that e-mails the parents immediately when the page is updated.

Doesn't matter. Most schools in Atlanta are not what you call a neigborhood school. They have a minimum of 1200 students and run up to 2800.They just bus everyone.Middle schools, elemetary and high schools have staggerd starting times to utilize the same busses.

Rural counties bus for many miles because they let one school service the entire county.Georgia is the largest state east of the Miss. river.
