"Oral Sex Prevalent Among Teens," announced Friday's Washington Post. "A federal survey finds more than half of 15- to 19-year-olds have had oral sex," said the subhead in the Los Angeles Times. "Sex Survey Shocker; Concern as most American teens have had oral sex," cried the Boston Herald.
Across the United Statesand beyond itany newspaper that didn't focus on lesbianism in the sex survey (released last week by the National Center for Health Statistics) declared a crisis of oral sex among teens. Experts and journalists, unwilling to express plain old moral dismay at the idea of their kids doing the deed, cited its health risks. "Oral sex has been associated in clinical studies with several infections, including gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes and the human papillomavirus," observed the Post. Teens "have not been given a strong enough message about the health risks of oral sex," an expert warned the Times. "We need to provide them with information about the public-health consequences," another expert told Time.
If only it were that simple. Talking to your kids about oral sex is the easy part. If you're going to be frank about the most dangerous widespread activity revealed in the survey, you're looking at the wrong end of the digestive tract.

You'd think after Kinsey, people would learn not to accept these "surveys" and the results and conclusions claimed by the "researchers" at face value, but it doesn't appear so.
Anturally you would pick up on that first.
Oh, ick! How Greek of them.
Survey like this are about as useful as opinion polls, but there is plenty of evidence that this type of activity is way more socially accepted than it used to be. I know too many "nice" girls who partake, or at least put up, with it.
No kidding. I can guarantee a post on FR is not the first time the typical teen hears about it.
I think if kids have been raised right and told to avoid sex and they decide to have butt sex instead, there isn't much more a parent could have said to prevent it.
Have fun.... I just think there is a certain thrill people get in talking about this stuff... it's as if it's OK to throw out all rules of decency because it's news.... Pornography of the mind without the guilt of actually doing it.
It may or may not be accurate, but it seems odd that given "critical thinking" as a basic characteristic of conservativism, no one seems inclined to subject the study to critical review before accepting the conclusions.
Actually, this is example of how screwed up sex education is in general. When the message kids get is "don't have sex because a) you'll get pregnant b) you'll get a disease," they logically look for alternatives that will eliminate the risk of one or both. Morality isn't involved at all.
It's like telling your kid, "Don't deal drugs on the street corner because you might get caught. Keep it in doors."
I agree. Seems whatever happens in porn eventually become mainstream.
It was actually "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky." He must have meant because she wasn't closely related, she wasn't relations. Except for rape, I have little confidence that the sicko psychopath Clinton could perform in coitus because his personality is so defective.
Olive oil was found by the prehistorical cultures to have multiple uses which the Greeks made famous for Hollywood's and the Beltway elites' short-term benefit. Nearly every star has as its future a black hole.
It is 100% true. I hear the same thing, which leads me to believe that a lot of boyfriends, married men are being influenced by porn.
Sadly,
The thing I hate about the porn industry is it pushes all these myths that make men think that women work differently than they actually do....So guys do things and push for things that are, well, just wrong! And hurt and are a big time turn off and trust breaker.
So while the porn chicks are 'acting', they really hate it as much as those vanilla wives at home.
Exactly!
I want to say over and over and OVER...
Porn is fantasy,
Made up stuff,
Not true....
AND
those women in the those movies are ACTRESSES!
Geez
Gals, I wasn't raised in a puritan bubble, but I have ~never~ heard any man ask or display interest in doing this, nor have any of my friends. And conversations have been had that are close enough to the subject that I think it would come up.
I'm just sayin' is all.
Maybe you and your friends are associating with a better type of men? (Jeez, folks - change a few hundred thousand diapers, and then see what you think about the hinder end of *anything*!)
I've never heard of this from the people I know, either, but then my friends and I (in the 6-10 kids each group) are mainly interested in going to sleep :-).
However, a very significant part of the population uses porn, and if those trends are influencing expectations in the real world, then I need to know about it as a parent, no matter how much it disgusts me.
How old are you?
Ummm 36.
- or am I 37? I have to think! :~D
I'm sure you meant to write: "Bass Ackwards"
At least THIS wasn't Bush's fault...
