Reverend Jesse Jackson asserted that the devastation inflicted on poor blacks by Hurricane Katrina proves America is a racist society.
“We don’t see this kind of destruction in white or Jewish communities,” said Jackson. “Why is it always poor blacks who’re hurt? It’s because our racist society wants it that way.”
Jackson said 120,000 people in New Orleans make less than $8,000 a year. “This is less than I charge for a single speech,” Jackson pointed out.
Jackson also criticized the role given to former presidents George Bush senior and Bill Clinton as coordinators for a fund raising effort following the Katrina tragedy. “Why wasn’t I asked to lead this relief effort?” Jackson demanded to know. “As a Black man, I can feel their pain just as well, if not better than Bill Clinton. And my fees are quite reasonable.”
Jackson spoke after leading a bus convoy into New Orleans to give a speech to 450 students trapped at Xavier University. “If you’re Black and you live in a shack, your race will trap you in this place,” said Jackson.

I believe Jesse Jackson was mis-quoted here, due to two periods accidently being added- one after the U and the other after S, I am certain that he was trying for once to tell the truth. Jesse's statment should have read, " Hurricane Katrina proves us (blacks) raciests."

$8000 a year could be a welfare check of $666 a month. Which probably would be what a ONE Person Family would get. More likely he's referring to a $666 unemployment check because a working person who lost their job and is collecting unemployment could very likely get less govt help than someone on welfare. You know liberals discourage work.
Jesse Jacka$$ would not say $8000 a year, if he could find one example of someone living on $7900 a year.
Rush read an email from some friends in the area that had detail on why one of the cops committed suicide. It was because after a super shift of rescue he came home to find his home looted, his wife and children raped and murdered.
