Fox News Moves Up to the Next Level of Dominance in TV Coverage
Cable Newser ^ | Aaron Barnhardt

Posted on 09/06/2005 2:17:42 PM PDT by gopwinsin04

What better sign that Fox News Channel has arrived than the fact that Shepard Smith was the guest on 'Late Night with David Letterman' last nght, writes Aaron Barnhardt.

'As I said on the radio yesterday, the media world is coming to grips with the fact that Fox News has moved up to the next level of dominance in televised news.'

'It's coverage of the disaster was consistently gripping, even more so as the week went on...CNN and MSNBC were good, but I kept gravitating towards Fox because ironically, I thought I could get less spin and more reportage there.'

He concludes, 'In the coming years I fully expect Rodger Ailes to beef up Fox's global reporting, add some kind of a headline service, acquire better radio assets and make good on his slogan 'The Most Powerful Name In News.'

Tiresome, but becoming truer every day.

Seems both Fox & CNN dropped the obnoxious banners after your post.

Yeh, they drop them for a while. Then the control room idiot comes back on duty and the splattering returns.

I really get irritated with FoxNews when they run video or live feeds and the banner covers up the area of interest.

I have sent dozens of emails to FoxNews, complaining. Even Shep and Brit, on occasion, have complained to the control room about the banner covering the video.

Does anybody know what happened to Linda Vester? She was my favorite and all of a sudden she was gone and I never heard a word about why.

I thought she had a baby, but then she came back. Maybe she decided to stay home with the baby for a few months. I hope she returns.

First off , its not a "Free Republic Article". It's a News Max article

Man, you do not have to be so nasty.
I will accept that the numbers are off because the source is unreliable and because you say so.
But I am sure that I have been a faithful viewer of Fox News Channel for a number of years and they have gone completely off track with the rest of the MSM this past week.
I also know that I am not the only faithful viewer of Fox news who is disappointed in the inferior reporting from them lately.

Next time try and defend yourself and not defend the liberal cnn.

By the way, check my tagline. I am the number one loather of CNN and have been for some time.
This is what compounds my distress at the decline of Fox News because now I have no reliable news outlet.
I do hope they get control of themselves and get back on track soon.

>>>>Man, you do not have to be so nasty.

Stop whining. I wasn't nasty. I wanted to get your attention and I did. Next time, don't cut and run from debate.

>>>>I will accept that the numbers are off because the source is unreliable and because you say so.

Never said the numbers were off. But that wasn't my point. My post to "blackie" RE:#56 shows the actual overnight cablenews ratings. Fox is still #1 and its ratings haven't slipped. Fox`s ratings have gone up. That is contrary to your statement that Fox numbers are "sinking fast" and "virtually tied" with CNN. Both remarks are not true.

>>>>"Their cable ratings are sinking fast....
>>>>They are virtually tied right now."

In your opinion, Fox has gotten off track with the rest of the MSM. I don't see it. I've been watching all three cablenews outlets before, during and in the aftermath of Katrina making landfall. CNN has picked up the tempo of their overall presentation, but they are nowhere near Fox when it comes to professionalism, individual personalities and the all important entertainment factor. And believe me, good news reporting has a strong entertainment factor at its core. Fox has mostly stayed away from reporting stories with a strong negative slant to them. Such reproting is purely biased in nature. Such reporting is nothing more then fingerpointing and engaging in the blame game that is mainly directed at the Bush administartion.

CNN is the liberals cablenews outlet. When a breaking news story happens, the liberal establishment in America turns to CNN to get the vast majority of their news. That gives CNN a short term boost in the ratings, but nothing more.

Yes. I noticed. The dichotomy was confusing.

I second that whole-heartedly. I think that the Katrina coverage has been a showcase for all that is great about FNC. They were the first to get down there, and their coverage and personalities have been up to the challenge of taking on this emotionally overwhelming story.
No one does it any better these days.

Totally agree that Katrina has really highlighted the fantastic individuals FNC has working for them. That is what I love about Fox, their shows and anchors actually have a PERSONALITY!
