What Katrina Reveals: Moonbat Evolution, Insensitivity, Silly News Coverage

While lefties probably aren't going to win support blaming Bush for Hurricane Katrina's extensive damage, it does show how much their movement has changed since 1989.

Why 1989? That's when the magnitude-7.1 Loma Prieta Earthquake hit California's Central Coast, while another Bush was in the White House.

I was just a few miles from the quake's epicenter in Santa Cruz County. As with Katrina's news coverage so far, it took several days for the outside world to discover the real extent of the area's damage.

I moved to SF 2 weeks before that quake. 6 people died 5 blocks from my house. The front facade of a building fell 5 or 6 floors and crushed the cars they had just gotten into leaving work.

The street at the end of the block split right up the middle. Manhole ladders were sticking up 3 feet out of the manholes. A building at the end of the block, the bottom floor went left, the top floor went right.

I could see huge clouds of smoke from the fires in the Marina.

We went to the local bar for a glass of wine. When it started getting dark, we rushed home, locked the doors, loaded the shotgun, made pasta (the gas and water were on, electricity off) lit candles and sat tight.

We didn't have a portable radio (lesson, everyone, go out and get portable and batteries or one of those hand cranked ones), listened to radio on car in garage. Electric back on 3 days later.

The worst was hearing about the poor souls trapped in their cars on the collapsed freeway in Oakland. Many burned to death in their cars. Horrible.

There but for the grace of God or Mother Nature go I.
