Democrats' new strategy: 'Rovegate' house parties

Some of the most liberal members of Congress are planning to throw house parties next Saturday to focus attention on presidential adviser Karl Rove and the so-called Downing Street Memo.

Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., says he's organizing the events across the country "to broaden public understanding of how Karl Rove and the Bush Administration have manipulated intelligence, deceived the American people, and misled our nation into war."

"Our country is slowing beginning to confront the truth about the Bush administration's deceitful rush to war in Iraq," Conyers said.

July 23 marks the three-year anniversary of the meeting at No. 10 Downing Street in London, that was recorded in the now infamous minutes known as the Downing Street Memo.

According to the AfterDowningStreet website promoting the parties, "The agenda at various of these events will include speeches, panel discussions, viewing of DVDs, dramatic recreations of the Downing Street Minutes, debates, writing postcards and letters to congress members and senators not present, writing letters to the editor, training participants in effective lobbying, honoring local fallen soldiers, and planning local marches and flyering campaigns."

Regarding Rove, Conyers said, "Ninety-one of my Democratic colleagues joined me in a letter to the president, demanding that Rove either explain his role in the outing of [CIA agent] Valerie Plame or that he resign. I was also joined by 12 Democratic members of the Judiciary Committee asking Chairman Sensenbrenner for hearings on the growing scandal. I believe these hearings will help illustrate how Rovegate is a part of the puzzle of the ongoing Iraq War deception."

At least eight events will be hosted by or participated in by members of Congress, including Conyers in Detroit, Jim McDermott in Seattle, Barbara Lee in Oakland, Maxine Waters in Los Angeles, and Maurice Hinchey in New York.

Ordinary citizens are also being encouraged to host their own house parties.

Conyers says he'll be conducting a conference call for house-party hosts featuring Plame's husband, Amb. Joe Wilson, as well as Air America radio host Randi Rhodes as guests.

After seeing this list, I think it's time to bring back the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Is the CIA political to the point where they would work to undermine a President - like work with a Woodward to oust Nixon or cut the legs from under Bush? Does the CIA have a dog in this fight?

Maybe I should have a "Rovegate" party so I can get a group of liberals together and tell them to pull their collective heads out of their collective butts.

If it's a good party I'll show up, but don't expect me to talk politics. Any part I go to where people ruin the atmosphere talking politics, that's my cue to start slamming.

Liberal democrats, is there no lower life form? I think not.

You're right, time for the anti-American dems to be taken to the woodshed.

Another sign they want to make it Watergate -- I have dim recollections of Dems having parties about something to do with the 18-minute gap. (Of course, without the internet and 24/7 cable coverage, there wasn't any news coverage about them!) Not having been a Dem, I wasn't included in the plans. ;-)

Maybe I just heard more than most: I'm in Boston and was in graduate school at BU at the time.

Might be a great party to crash to gain intel on what the lunnies plan next.

Also got to wonder if they have figured out how to use taxpayer dollars to fund their franchise parties.

I'm sensing a pattern here. Every time the leftists need for their current "Big Lie" to have a shot in the arm, they start organizing these house parties.

The problem for them is, such a tactic generates diminishing returns. At some point, and it may be this time, the tactic utterly fails because of a combination of lack of coherent argument coupled with an issue even leftists just don't care about. Only the most deranged Bush hater really cares what happens to Karl Rove, especially since the clear, objective evidence is that he didn't do anything wrong of consequence, and probably not anything wrong at all.

Cut them some slack since they never get chance to throw victory parties.

Could minor Ambassador Joe Wilson himself have been the source in blowing his own Wife's cover?

It is distinctly possible, (though it may be unlikely that Joe Wilson himself directly was NY Times Judith Miller's source), since Joe Wilson himself evidently routinely bragged openly to strangers about her CIA employment, prior to such "cover" being "blown" in the press.

Here's an example of Joe's apparently routine and open bragging about Valerie being a "CIA agent," which became known directly to me over a year ago:

He certainly bragged about it per a famous and highly reliable source's (named below) account of his own face-to-face encounter with Amb. Joe Wilson prior to Valerie Plame's "outing" as a CIA agent/employee.

Based upon a personal conversation (we were in a small group eating; it was NOT an "off the record") I had with eminent historian Victor Davis Hanson (we were at a luncheon table together during a trip to Europe), it appeared entirely possible that Joe Wilson himself was the (or one source, if not the original one) possible source in revealing his own wife's status as a CIA agent or employee.

Victor Davis Hanson (Wilson presumably knew Victor Davis Hanson wrote regularly for NRO (National Review Online), had done OpEds for the Wall street Journal, and other publications, and had his own Website with a widespread following) said he (VDH) & Joe Wilson were both in the same "Green Room" before a televised debate-discussion on Iraq, etc. and Joe first warned the TV make-up person not to get powder on his $14,000 Rolex watch, then he bragged to Victor about several things (possessions and trips to Aspen, etc.), like his expensive car (I think it was a Mercedes), and then bragged about his beautiful wife who, Joe Wilson said (braggingly) was a CIA operative.

I asked Victor Davis Hanson Why he didn't write up this account.(?) He replied that Joe Wilson would probably simply deny it, since only he (VDH) & Joe Wilson were in the Green Room together before the broadcast.

However, it is now easy to surmise that Joe Wilson is a crass, materialistic, self-promoting, vain, egotistical, bragaddocio-opportunist, so this account is perfectly consistent with Valerie Plame's TWO photo shoots in Vanity Fair. (Or was it Vogue? No, probably too crass for Vogue, n'est pas?)

Does the CIA have a dog in this fight?

Obviously, some people at CIA have a bigger problem with President Bush & Karl Rove than they do with TERRORISTS!!!

When do we start our "I am a CIA OPERATIVE house parties"?!

They are really betting the whole pot, their watches and their houses on this hand, aren't they?

Is that Bush and the "Briar patch" all over again?

IIRC by the time the eighteen and a half minutes of blank tape became known, Nixon was essetially through, it was just a matter of time.

And if you don't have time to throw a party (or are like me and don't want to clean for company) just use this form to send Karl his "pink slip."

ROFLMAO! What a bunch of doorknobs. I'm going to track how long they keep this page up, now that it's a non-issue.

Their meetings should be called "lightweights and airheads" while Bush and his great team are dealing with serious issues.
