Canada to U.S.: All Our Ex-Pats Are Belong to Us, and Will Tell You What to Do

Toronto-- Long harboured Canadian resentment of Canada being annexed by the United States took a 90-degree angle on July 1 with Frank McKenna, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States, turning the tables. McKenna says he will organize the more than 1 million Canadians in the United States to lecture Americans.

McKenna, who’s already sent messages to 6,000 expatriates, intends to get in touch with 100,000 of them by week’s end. The rookie ambassador is pressing the "Canadian diaspora" to arm themselves with facts, to debate Americans and to get out and lobby when Washington makes decisions that can hurt Canadians, says the Toronto Star.

Fighting the U.S. on its own soil, albeit by stealth, McKenna is calling to action Florida snowbirds, northern exiles in Arizona, Hollywood comedians and actors, investment bankers in New York and professors and students at universities across the U.S.

Mike, we don't all live in the "prairie lands".

More importantly, this initiiative by Frank McKenna is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. He needs some real professional help. Maybe David Frum could help him.

22 Conservatives were elected in those regions in Ontario in the last election, and most of the remaining Liberals held to power by only a thread and could easily be toppled...

Also many of those Conservatives are NOT Red Tories, some are strong social conservatives like Cheryl Gallant, Scott Reid, Dean Allison, Gord Brown, Pierre Poilievre, Guy Lauzon and Jeff Watson...

True. We're going to need to assemble and mobilize a real election machine though. And we haven't had that in decades. You ready? Because I'm thinking it's about damn time.

YES! We've got more allies than ever before with the gay marriage debacle...

Toronto skews the Ontario numbers heavily into the Liberals' favour, due to the presence of 20,000 vote majorities in many Toronto ridings for the Liberals.

If the Conservatives and Liberals are tied in Ontario, the CPC will win a lot more seats (something like 55 to 40 with the rest going NDP). The Liberals need to be about 3-5 percentage points above the Conservatives in Ontario to win the same number of seats, and 6-7 ahead to win over half the seats (due to the NDP likely to get 8-10).

It depends from what point of view you're looking at it from. Unfortunately, from many Canadians' perspective, the gay marriage debacle was a triumph of human rights. And from a Machiavellian political perspective, it was an ably orchestrated political coup; a fait d'accompli that spits in the faces of all conservatives. Nevertheless, I think we made a few new supporters. The trick is getting them to vote. I'd be happy if the Conservatives took another 15 seats from the Liberals in Ontario and 5-10 in the maritimes. And 1 in Quebec.

15 more seats in Ontario and 5-10 in the Maritimes, combined with a couple extra seats here and there in the West, would take the Liberals out of power, but leaves the Conservatives with about 130 seats compared to about 100 for the Liberals (due to expected Bloc Quebecois gains and a few NDP pickups). It would be hard to work with that. We need at least 140-145 to have a workable government, and 155 for a majority.

We're never going to get a majority. Not unless we can get Quebec. Because without a decent number of seats from Quebec, we would pretty much need to get 5/6 of all the other seats in Canada, which is impossible. We would need the Liberals to fall off the face of the earth and noone rise to take their place but us. So let's look pragmatically at how we're going to get a decent minority government and a good coalition.

It appears that I spoke too harshly, too soon. There's some sort of rule about altering titles, and I don't think it includes an exemption for stealthy jokes. No, MY use of 'stealthy' is not intended as a pun.

Wouldn't it be more helpful for the Canadian Ambassador to educate Canadians in Canada and have them educate other Canadians in Canada about all the good that America does, what a great country America is and how it is Canadians great good forture to be bordered next to such a country?

Why would anyone care what the liberal Canadian's think? Most people don't care what our own liberals think.
Who even argues with a Canadian and about what? Their military might?

Canada pretty has no national culture of its own.

Who's fault is that? They should stop whining & go make some culture.

BTW, I'm never going to vacation in Canada again. Heck, I'll go the long way around to get to NY & points east...there are more bathrooms.

In the future, I won't do it then....For great justice. As I said before, I didn't take offence, so there's no problem. I was more surprised than anything. And your point is very well taken. No more editing titles from now on.

Dream on.

American freedom does not mean freedom from bureaucracy.

NO NO NO NO NO!

Do not send your refuse up here. NO!

Why not, my dears, send up some GOOD conservatives to help out our folk? Puhlease! I implore you. Our MSM with that pathetic Peter Mansbridge heading up the bully machine that is the ever passive aggressive CBC needs a whooping like only Murka can deliver.

For goodness sake, Al Jazeera got its license to broadcast before Fox News (thank you, it's been the saving of us).

Our idiot socialists can always count on Demonrats to get support - send up some solid GOP to support our conservatives. ASAP.

Canada needs some shamin' - pronto.

Ahem - I live in Ontario and am notably supportive of the US economy (read much cross border shopping). I am also true blue, toots. My vehicles are Chrysler and Ford products.

I do not drink or wear or furnish my household with anything French.

Not all freeps live west, but we do our part in these hostile waters.

PS - Thanks for the Alberta beef. Love it.

Can I get in a ditto, likewise here? The US needs to send up some GOP folk to support the conservative voice here.

Happy 4th and many, many more!

The most likely members in a coalition are disgruntled Liberals who are mostly pro-life, pro-family and have strong reservations about Mr. Dithers (but were whipped into supporting some bills). It would likely take at least 140 Conservative MPs to allow them to put us over the top.

There is little chance that we will be able to find any common ground with the Bloc Quebecois or NDP.

They're both highly socialist parties, eat the rich and live off their tax dollars types. I know I recall moving from QC on ON in 1990 and without a raise my paycheck going up almost $150. The west (but not loony BC) needs to sell Ontario in a big way.

Two words: hunting accident. You do need a hunting license so folks don't get suspicious. Other than that, NO PERMIT!
