Networks Not Lovin’ McDonald’s Efforts

New commercial with a healthy focus draws fire from morning shows.

McDonald’s took another hit from network mornings shows on June 9, 2005. All three networks – NBC, CBS and ABC – attacked a new commercial and one even blamed the restaurant for childhood obesity.

On CBS’s “The Early Show,” Hannah Storm interviewed advertising critic Barbara Lippert, who declared that McDonald’s is “the new tobacco” and blamed the burger chain for obesity. “They see that they’ve engendered this problem, they’ve really created this way of eating, and now they’re trying to do something good,” she said of the commercial, which depicts active children exercising and getting vegetables.

Storm argued, “Some people would argue that the smart choice is to not eat at McDonald’s.” She later added, “But some people, experts, claim that these ads are disingenuous because you can’t find that food that you see in the commercial in abundance when you go to a McDonald’s.”

Storm did not have any actual people giving the opinions that she attributed to “some people.” The reporter was the only source of these comments in the show’s segment on the issue, and the voice of personal responsibility was conspicuously absent.

Sure, McDonald's made me fat. The dog ate my homework. And Bill Clinton made me cheat on my wife.

Here you go. Liberals showing lack of common sense.

Let's blame McDonald's for obesity in America. We all know McDonald's employees go out into the streets, put guns to people's heads and force them to eat McDonald's food and get fat.

McDonald's will be the Phillip Morris of the early 21st century.

Yep, it's the cheeseburger's fault!

People will go to great lengths to avoid responsibility for their own actions.

Do any of these idiots give McDonalds credit for the good it does (Ronald McDonald House, for example)?

So true. It must be easy to cast responsibility onto someone or something else. What a way to live: refusing to take personal responsibility. That's pretty sad and pathetic.

The good thing about taking responsibility for one's actions is that one can lay claim to both their successes and failures. Those who deny responsibility can lay claim to neither. I am willing to bear responsibility for my shortcomings in order to enjoy the credit for my successes. You have to accept the bad if you want to claim the good.

Barbara Lippert, please take two aspirin, an ex-lax, and get a good night rest. Your morning will be brighter. Any vice is my business, not yours and nobody is forcing you to eat at McDonalds.

I am also one of those who does not blame genetics for my behaviour. I am one who believes that addictions are a choice. It is a cop-out to blame bad choices on genetics (it is tantamount to blaming one's ancestors for one's bad choices).

It's amazing, isn't, the number of studies there are to say, basically, "it's in your genes." I particularly like the idea that some people are predisposed to commit crime. There's the genetic excuse right there. "But sir, it's in my genes to commit crime. I couldn't help it."

I think one of the reasons for our journey here on earth is to see if we will overcome our weaknesses, rather than give in to them. Too many give in, thinking it's just human nature. That excuse is just bull pucky in my opinion. There is no limit to the depth of man's depravity and their is no limit to the heights of goodness to which he can go. It just depends on what a man (or woman) chooses to do. More and more people choose to go downward, to their eventual misery. It's all about personal choice and accountability.

You forgot that they also tie people to their couches to make sure they don't exercise.

Of course! I didn't even think about that. I just figured when people plopped down on the couch and didn't exercise, it was the couch's fault.

Yep. That is what is at the heart of salvation - it is open to those who are willing to accept it and the change that it involves. It is our choice to either move away from G-d or closer to Him.

There are tons of fast food places in America, why pick on McDonald's? After some serious thought, I don't think this is about obesity at all. Oh, that is the angle these types take but it is really about "big-business". McDonald's is a HUGE world-wide corporation, which the commie left hates even more than fat people.

Same thing with those anti-smoking ads. They always use "Big Tobacco" as the company. Always.

Liberals have NO SELF CONTROL...
Thus, they don't expect others to have any either.

Therefore, the "government" must protect us from the evils of Microsoft, McDonalds, WalMart, etc. etc.

We can't be trusted to make my own decisions.

Barf.
