German Spiegel points to a stealth bomber uncovered on Google Maps.

Spiegel writes, “As you know it’s prohibited to get close to military bases, let alone photograph them. Usually satellite images which are made public online are retouched to blur scenerey which might compromise security. At least that’s what you assume in times of terror. However, the googling tourist stumbles upon a stealth bomber on a military airport in California.

German Spiegel Story translated to English below:

Spy more beautifully with Google
Richard Meusers and franc Patalong write: (excerpt)

America is always worth a journey. Some prepares its Trip carefully, during travel planning helps service such as Google map: On the satellite photographs everything is to be found, what one wants to find. Up to the location of stealth bombers - description of way including.
Practically it is already, this new Google service: On an interactive map one stromert cross and crosswise by the USA, and as Sahnehaeubchen there are also still satellite photographs in addition. It makes fun to pull itself with the mouse by the landscape naturdenkmaeler, to above discover famous buildings and so some surprise from far - military plants or atomic power plants for example.

Now it is as well known forbidden approaching military plants or photographing these. If satellite photographs are placed in the net, all referring to security-politically delicate plants were more or less well away-retouched before. One thinks, particularly in times of the terror danger.

But the googelnde tourist stolpert unexpectedly into spe when regarding a California military airport over a stealth bomber. That was probably forgotten with over marks.

Embarrassing breakdown, particularly since it is safety-relevant indeed precarious.

Already it points itself to some samples that many of the "critical infrastructures" were made as expected unrecognizable in the USA also on the Google satellite photographs. Many different in addition, not: One must only find it.

Over the suchmaske of Google maps that cannot be done. The search for "pentagon" does not lead by any means to the Ministry of Defense, probably however to Cafés and other business, which carry the search word as a name component. One just as in vain looks for Lewis, the Edwards' air cousin for the Air Force bases AAF Gray, away or for the names of well-known atomic power plants.

If I recall correctly, this B-2 stealth bomber was designed in the late 1980's and was unveiled "officially" in the early 1990's.

I guess this is a real gem for German journalism.

From the headline and the writeup, a B-2 isn't exactly what I expected to see in the photo.

The best part is they still can't see the five guys in front of the USMC band that's next to the fuel truck by the tent where the porta-potties are at.

(oops was I not to say that?)
