TO MY FRIENDS AT FREE REPUBLIC
Well, sometimes youre right and sometimes your wrong. When I came to you all for support of the Silver Star Service Flag for our honored wounded, many of you suggested that I should just DO IT!
While still working to get signatures for a petition to get Congressional recognition, I decided to take your advice. (http://www.petitiononline.com/12251952/petition.html) I wanted you all to be the first to know that we have now formed THE SILVER STAR FAMILIES OF AMERICA. (Temporary Site: http://steven.newton6.home.att.net/) and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SilverStarFamiliesofAmerica/join
I just decided that years waiting for legislation was too long. Now they will be presented with a viable organization that they can recognize or not. But we will be here to help the wounded until then.
I wish I could show you all the Flag, which should be available in the next couple of days but I have no idea how to post it. I would love to see it flying over every VA Hospital and from every wounded soldiers family home. If you wish to see it, go to: http://home.att.net/~steven.newton1/serviceflag.html Im interested in everyones opinion.
Please pass along to all your military friends that a group has been formed to help the wounded and their families. You do not have to be wounded or a family member of wounded to join. Dues are cheap and they are free for all military injured in the line of duty.
I want to thank each and every one of you for giving me the push I needed. Sometimes a guy knows whats right but just needs the advice of his friends. And I consider all of you friends.
(And because you all have been good little Freepers, I have posted a new Old Sergeant story.)
God bless
Chief Steven J. Newton (ret)

I never could understand why we don't have a service Flag for the wounded.

BTTT!!!
Awesome Flag Steve!! We too here at Blue Stars for a Safe Return are doing something different in support of our troops, our veterans, and our still POW/MIA's. But we too remember our wounded in our prayers, as well as their families. We created a Veterans emblem, because we realized that the Veterans had no official emblem of their own. We have been trying to figure out how to incorporate something into our displays too that would signify something for the wounded. That is still a work in progress, so I am glad to see that we are not alone in trying to remember our wounded soldiers.
What you have done is simply awesome. I Know the work and efforts you have put into this will be rewarded. I will having my webmaster add your site to our list of useful websites on our site in the next few days.
We did ours because we wanted to offer people the opportunity to display something, whether family or freinds, without government stipulations. They may not have an "official" government label, but they are officially available for anyone to display to honor our troops.
I say....GOOD JOB!!! For moving forward with your goal, without waiting for the "red tape".
Always keep moving forward, and never look back, you are heading in the right direction, and on the right path.
We Salute you all!!!!
Excellent!!
What an uplifting note. I thank you. And I thank all of you for your service to our Great Nation and the men and women who serve her.
I appreciate your listing my site and I will visit your site also and list you on my home page.
Who knows? Maybe we can combine our efforts someday.
May God bless all our endeavors and may he bless our wonderful Armed Forces.
