" Now is the time for our president to be as tough on the borders as he is on international terrorists."

Mexico would be broke in a heartbeat if we completely closed the borders.
We should go ahead and get it over with (shock them into true capitalism)
But we might have a bunch of starving mexicans scrambling up here

What is the big deal- illegals only take the jobs that legal Mexicans don't want. (sarcasm off)

Smaller government does not mean a reduction in the size of the patrol.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Bush to do anything about the border problems. You will turn blue and drop dead first. He ain't gonna do a thang.

Fabulous comment. If you have Vicente's email address, I suggest that you send your comment to him!
Thanks so much for your input!

This is the single biggest disappointment of the Bush administration. No one in the White House has been able to articulate a coherent border/immigration policy. And the RATs are just as bad....this is a political opening you could drive a 747 through and they're so blinded by hatred of conservatives that they can't even see it. I salute the Minutemen and encourage them to persevere.

I wish that someone could provide a rational explanation for Bush's inability or unwillingness to ACT on this critical matter. Everything else that he has done and is doing meets with the approval of all of us hard-and-fast conservative Republicans. Why isn't he reading the tea leaves for us with the out-of-control invasion of America by so many
millions, that it is
inevitable that terrorists will come through in sufficient numbers to create a 2nd 9/11 which could even be worse for America?

Maybe not, RetiredArmy, but we need to keep yelling via phone, letter, email and congress critter. I can't figure out what W's problem is on this issue.
This should happen now: "There is another thing our president could do to affect positive change on border security. He needs to talk very clearly to the Mexican government, starting with Mexican President Vicente Fox. President Fox is in dire need of a dressing down and President Bush should give him one.

I saw a side-by-side photo of this one and the one which Israel has erected. The comparison is pitiful. Israel's is
double. It has several yards of free space between each fence, and they are electrified. Why in heaven's name can't the most prosperous, most powerful nation on earth construct the same kind of fence - along our northern and southern borders?
WHY?
Thanks, Travis.

FROM THE ARTICLE..."They behaved admirably, with compassion for those they prevented from entering our nation illegally. This type of citizen action can help tremendously. It must be encouraged by the Bush administration however. The response President Bush gave to the Minutemen was hardly encouraging or supportive. He in fact managed to call them vigilantes. This was hardly an accurate way to describe their volunteer efforts to make America safer."
IMHO...The Minutemen project has brought the priorities of this administration re immigration into focus.
The project was an unqualified success. Citizens taking action to provide increased security and extra eyes and ears for undermanned BP agents fits right in with the volunteer mentality that Bush and HSA have stressed in the aftermath of 9-11, and also in his government / citizen social initiatives. So Bush misjudged this effort..okay...lets give him that. So now what does the admin do?
I judge as significant not only what a politician SAYS, but what he DOESNT SAY.
Since the Minutemen project initial phase has been completed...with Bush and others proved wrong in their assessment of 'vigilantism'...there has been no mention of it by Bush or anyone else in his admin.
Nor has there been any attempt to address the very serious charges that were raised recently regarding Border agents in the affected county being given orders to stand down from enforcement..in an attempt to 'make the numbers look good'...ie...diminish the perceived success of the Minutemen project. This is a serious charge...and deserves a thorough investigation.
The silence of this admin is deafening to me.
It equates to a stone cold political calculation...this bothers me alot.
