Dear Rodney,
Its been xx years since you graduated from Columbia. June 2-5, 2005 the Class of xxxx will gather for your xx-year reunion. The class goal is to raise $60,000 for Columbia College with gifts of any size from 25% of the class.
For over 50 years, Columbia College alumni have given back to the Columbia College Fund and helped build the Columbia experience as it exists today(you mean the rampant anti-semetisim, or the general promotion of a rigid socialist orthodoxy?). A gift to Columbia College is an investment in Columbia and its future leaders and visionaries(Yeah, that's the problem). Please consider making your first gift to the Columbia College Fund this year in honor of your reunion(Not that I will be attending).
Your gift will help Columbia uphold its commitment to academic excellence by funding:
* more than $35 million in financial aid supporting over 40% of Columbia College students(I already did my part by paying full tuition. Why should I further subsidize a bunch of socialists?)
* low student-faculty ratio in Core Curriculum courses and others to ensure valuable intellectual engagement(OK, sounds good.)
* implementation of exciting new initiatives including the establishment of the Office of Multicultural Affairs(Wow, really exciting) and the new Core Curriculum course, Frontiers of Science(Is this the one where everyone gets and A? Why not just go to Princeton if the core is going to be a joke?)
* enhanced student services, student-alumni programming and campus activities(fair enough)
* world renowned faculty such as Ken Jackson and Manning Marable.(Google Manning Marable, and then try not to puke)
We hope you will join the more than 10,000 Columbia donors who contribute to the College annually.
Make your gift today at www.college.columbia.edu/alumni/giving or by calling 1-866-CCALUMNI.
Alumni who give over $1,500 before June 30, 2005 will be recognized as John Jay Associates in our Annual Report.
With gratitude,
The Columbia College Fund
P.S. $100,000 YOUNG ALUMNI CHALLENGE : ANY ANNUAL FUND GIFT FROM YOUNG ALUMNI RECEIVED BETWEEN NOW AND JUNE 30TH WILL BE MATCHED 2:1 (UP TO $100,000) BY THE COLUMBIA COLLEGE BOARD OF VISITORS!!

Of course, I meant "possibly" in the headline, not "possbile".
Which Columbia College is this?
New York.
All that stuff in bold is a bit off-putting. I wonder if they'll get any donations with all of that in there.
I think that this is such an intriguing statement that I will do just that.
But you could be a John Jay associate!
I don't think they mentioned the word "Columbia' enough times.
But there are alot of Columbia Colleges. There is one in Columbia, MO, and one in Chicago. The undergraduate liberal arts program of Columbia University would be considered Columbia College. Which one is this one?
The undergraduate liberal arts program of Columbia University.
Columbia ping
We'll forgive you. After all, you did go to Columbia.
Actually, I learned a lot at Oberlin: Basically how to defeat any "Liberal" on earth in a debate. But that is not the sort of instruction for which they solicit funds. On the other hand, I suspect that some who preserve a Conservative outlook at Columbia, despite the instruction, gain a similar benefit. That doesn't mean that I would send them a $.
