Word comes from Matt May of a shocking crime in Indianapolis. The Medal of Honor Memorial, the nations only monument to all winners of the Medal of Honor, has been defaced by vandals. In his blog entry, Matt reports that
The memorial was defaced with a spray painted "peace" sign, Valentine-shaped heart, obscenties directed at Indiana governor Mitch Daniels, and the traditional sign of anarchists (a circle with an A inside).
Matt calls these criminals cowards for peace. I have much stronger terminology for them, but will not publish it here.
Repairs will take weeks and cost thousands of dollars. But the physical damage is the least of it. Every winner of the Medal of Honor deserves the utmost respect and honor of which each of us is capable. They have earned their honor (many of them posthumously) via extreme heroism, placing the lives of their comrades, and the welfare of the rest of us, above their own welfare and survival. They join the pantheon of the greatest heroes of our nation. The very idea of dishonoring them is repugnant, and (at least in me) creates feeling of deep disgust and anger.
Indianapolis is a city literally built around the nations very first memorial to the common soldier, The Soldiers and Sailors Monument, which stands at the exact center of the city. It is the single most prominent feature of the citys geography, occupying its highest place of honor. With the Medal of Honor Memorial, Indianapolis built upon the proud and reverent heritage of honoring our military heroes.
The criminal penalties for vandalism will never be adequate to punish those who defaced the Medal of Honor Memorial, in the event the miscreants are ever apprehended. They have committed a crime against the best among us. They are worse than scum.
I'm so "surprised" that pease vandals would sneak up in the night to deface a memorial to courageous men.
Thanks for posting. Completely agree. This is not the "free speech" the bravest of the brave fought and died for.
The socialists are out to denegrate everything this Great Country was founded on, and so far they are winning
Disgusting. Be okay with me if these memorials were guarded by snipers.
The honor of these men is far past a pimply buttwipe with a can of spraypaint.
While I agree that the socialits hate America and are on a determined march to tr and destroy us I do not agree they are winning.
Despite occasional losses I think we're not so slowly gaining the upper hand. Further I think the weight of history is on our side. Time will tell but great causes desrve great efforts.
Rally, kick ass and take names.
I've never met a peacenick that wasn't a sneak and a wuss and a nightstalker. That includes the college-aged puke that spit in my face and RAN when I was in uniform at our Capitol building in Madison, WI for a meeting with the Governor during ODS.
I guess to a p*ssy like that, I was pretty scarey in my Class A's, a skirt and heels. THESE are the people I swore to "Protect and Defend?" *Rolleyes*
Has a fund to clean up the memorial been established? I'll send in a few bucks.
You should see what I can still do at even 600 yards....
I just heard on our local radio that the traveling memorial is here in my city at Texas Tech University. I was thinking at the time they were talking about it that I wonder how they keep the thugs away from it.. then came on here and read this thread......
But in this case, wouldn't some interaction from about 18 inches be a little more satisfying??? It would for me.
Good for you... I on the other hand being a 6'3" 190lb Marine have an ironic built in liability in my size and presense with such people.
Read the below post from earlier today.

I believe 'ya, AOM! Me, my eyes are shot. Can't focus on both the front sight and the target anymore.
I agree, Ern. But I think the cowards would "do their thing" if there was a real man in sight. I just wanna see somebody drop 'em from a distance.
I always wondered about that leather strap and sharp stick story....
I'd pay to watch.
Here's a trick though. Have a gunsmith replace your rear sight with an old fashioned peep-sight with a wide shield. Forceing you to look through a small sight with a single eye seems to enhance your vision greatly. This trick was taught to me by my 90 year old grandfather (38 years in the Marines) who was still deadly with his piece when he died at 95.
It would be just as satisfying to paint the peace sign on their faces.
I was good at the Close Quarters Combat Course.
Plus years of Karate helps. :o)
US Vets stick together, all MOH wearers are humble heroes.
Look up Capt. Matt Urban sometime. He won 1 more medal than Audie Murphy. 7 Purple Hearts, DSC, SS, and MOH.
He died in 1994 and his obit read from complications from wounds suffered in 1944.
How about this old time Gyrene. I still do 6 klicks every day.
