Will the death of Terry Schiavo change anything?

There are certain events in history that have changed the way we act and think as a nation. The killing of President Kennedy, the attack on 9/11 and the capture of Saddam Hussein will be forever etched in our memory as if the video was playing inside our head. I remember when Reagan said, "tear down this wall," and how he boldly dared to throw down the gauntlet at the evil empire.

I think the death of Terry Schiavo will have the same impact on this country. Everyone who has watched this drama on TV should understand what is at stake, not just the slow and painful death of a woman, but the ignorance of the constitution of the United States of America. With the Supreme Court once again refusing to consider the case of Terry Schiavo, I am wondering what is the basis behind their refusal? If this isn't a constitutional issue, I don't know what is. I am no legal scholar, but as I remember, the Constitution says something about how life, liberty or property cannot be taken away without due process. And it is due process that the Supreme Court has refused to take a look at. Justice Kennedy could have reviewed the case himself, but instead, took the easy way out and referred it to the full court who denied the petition.

Now that Terry has left this world, can anything be done to change our judicial system? In my mind this is a Constitutional issue-life was taken away without due process.

IMO what needs to be changed are the laws of Flordia. And if Judge Greer truly was at fault, he should be impeached and removed from the bench.

Both actions are the responsibility of the state legislature.

Will this change anything? Yes. If this was done in front of the whole world with all of the government involved, then what's going to happen behind closed doors? The pro-death people in general and doctors in particular have been greatly encouraged by this.

Terri's death changed several things:

1. There are many who are rewriting their wills & instructions in an effort to avoid their own forced starvations & dehydrations.

2. There will be a huge microscope placed over Judge Greer and how the judiciary, both federal & state, does its business.

3. Michael will be free to marry his "fiance'"

4. Hopefully SOMEONE will look into how hospices are supposed to be run.

I don't know that it will change anything. I've listened to the same pro-abort liberals at work go off on this since it started, and they supported M. Schiavo 100%.

California Law Allows Euthanasia

A good place to start.

From JunkYardBlog:

Robert P. George sums up my thoughts best:

Let us mourn, but not be discouraged. Let us forgive those who have acted wrongly in our name, even as we beg forgiveness from the Author of Life for whatever failures and delinquencies on our own parts have contributed to the culture of death. We are all sinners, and have fallen short; and the wages of sin truly are death. Let us resolve that Terri's death shall not have been in vain. In her name, let reform and renewal be our undoubted mission. Let us now, even in the depths of sorrow, rededicate ourselves to our ancient creed, affirming that every human being, as a creature fashioned in the divine image, possesses a profound, inherent, and equal worth and dignity--a worth and dignity that it is the high duty of the officers and institutions of constitutional republican government to respect and defend.
