I didnt study it before, I only saw the two medals which meant he graduated from boot camp (National Defense Ribbon) and made it 3 years without getting caught (Good Conduct Medal), but once I studied it, look at the uniform errors of his:
First, his medals aren't on straight, they hang straight in the shot, but they are supposed to be parallel with his pocket flap/ at a right angle to his blouse flap where the buttons go, and they clearly are not.
Second, look at the medals, look at their height above the pocket! WAY TOO HIGH!! Phony placement of medals shows either a sloppy former Marine or a phony, I choose phony, he would have made the effort to pin them on right just to prove he was a legit former Marine who opposed the war.
Third, look to his right chest: What is that? A SEA SERVICE DEPLOYMENT RIBBON?? On the RIGHT SIDE?? There is no way a Marine would have put such an insignificant ribbon on his right side, that is reserved for Combat issue awards.
These things tell me this is more than just a disgruntled Grunt who got out and still fit in his blues while dating some puke drug addict Kurt Cobain fan, he is a PHONY!

His haircut's out of regs, and he's also missing the belt for his blues blouse.
What do all the above pictures have in common? (Other than that putrid stench of Communism?) Most of those idiots haven't had to yet pay a bill or run a household.

"interesting haircut for a marine."
Ya, and a good conduct ribbon, NDSM and a Cpl. Does that look like a ribbon over his right pocket?
4-years = Good Conduct ribbon
Past boot = NDSM
whats it take to make Cpl. these days?

look at the fingers of his left hand, he does have a belt on. You can see white between the fingers.
I first thought he was just home for more than 30 days, I once had 27 days leave, went home needing a haircut, stayed 3 weeks, 2 Marines on leave thought I was a squid! We had a good laugh, I had to explain I was home on leave so long.
But, even allowing for a long leave time home, there is NO WAY a Marine, even disgruntled would make a phony placement of ribbons and medals.

Good Conduct only took me 3 years, plus I made Sgt in 3 years 4 months.
I was good...what can I say? :)

Yeah, maybe he does have a belt.
I never heard of your reg about only displaying combat ribbons over the right side. When I was in, if you were in dress blues Alpha, you wore every medal you had on one side, and every ribbon (without an accompanying medal) on the other.

"3 years without getting caught "
Jees, was it 3 yrs or 4, somehow I'm remembering it at 4, but it's been 30 some yrs ago. Younger minds should know.
And what is a "A SEA SERVICE DEPLOYMENT RIBBON?? "
New made up thing, like the Aircrew wings they started giving out when the young troopies couldn't win the Combat Air Crew wings.
do they still can the NDSM the Fire watch ribbon??

Maybe it was 3, I picked up E-5 at 3 and was on the staff list before I got out at 4, surely wouldn't have got it the first time though.

In a nutshell it's for duty with Fleet Marine Force commands, for 12 months accumulated sea duty, or for at least one deployment of 90 consecutive days.
There's also a special ribbon/medal for having your picture taken with your girlfriend holding a stupid sign mocking your command structure. I think it's got a rainbow with a golden condom at the end of it.
