Hunter S. Thompson on Clinton
The American Thinker ^ | 23 Feb 05 | Edcoil

Posted on 02/23/2005 1:45:30 PM PST by edcoil

ClassicalValues.com has flagged an earlier quotation of interest:

Hunter S. Thompson on Billy Jeff Clinton:

Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson tells the New York Post that supporting President Clinton was "one of my greatest tactical errors in politics." . . . . "

I don't want to go down in history or have my son read that his father endorsed Clinton two times," Mr. Thompson said. . . . . "I had no idea what a treacherous bastard he really is. I'm shocked he went so low.

You'd think after grappling with Richard Nixon that you would know where the low road is, ... but Clinton's treachery is really sleazy. It's his character defects. I think Clinton will prove to be one of the great fascists of our time."

I'm near 45 years old and I've never heard of Hunter Thompson until he died.

I really don't think I missed anything did I?

I remember HST calling x42 a bigger fascist than Nixon, and Janet Reno proved it in spades starting with Waco, and ending with Elian Gonzalez. The guy might have been a drug-addled loon, but he was dead on when it came to King Bubba.

He did lots of drugs and blew things up and got treated like a God by the liberal elitists. No you didn`t miss anything.

Too late for a do-over, Hunter Thompson. Can't take back you words now. There are hard copies out there.

At least we now know that he was an equal opportunity hater.

back in the dim recesses of the late 60' early 70's when I actually got Rolling Stone delivered I tried to read "Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas".....with no success. I guess I wasnt whacked out enough.

I'm not sure why, but reading Hunter S. Thompson quotes is always funnier if you read it in his voice, imagining him strung out on a small pharmacy of psychoactive subsances while a Samoan lawyer waves a handgun around.

Perhaps we will have to reappraise the body of work of Mr Thompson?

Try "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72" or "The Great Shark Hunt". The guy was a pretty funny writer when he wasn't stoned out of his mind.

I guess Hunter Thompson equated every president to Nixon?

I watched the movie with Thompson portrayed by Johnnie Depp. It was so depressing thinking that any person could actually be that whacked out on drugs every moment of every day. It was really an uncomfortable movie to watch and at the time I had no idea that it was a largely true story/adaptation of who Hunter Thompson was.

After I learned this I thought, my God, people really live like this and are actually reviled (by the left of course) to boot. And I'm no puritan, I've done my share of drink and drugs but there are limits!

The Idiot then threw his support behind Kerry, who was every bit as bad, if not worse than Clinton. Maybe his bad leg kept him sober long enough to realize what a loser he was, therefore prompting the .45 dirtnap.

He just generally loathed politics and politicians.

Thompson was not a clearly definable person. A Gun Rights extremists with a liberal tinge. I'm not sure Thompson ever really understood himself. I don't have a whole lot of personal feelings about the guy but I thought Fear and Loathing in LV was hillarious.
