Yesterday Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) hosted a community forum in Ithaca, New York, on The Future Of Social Security.
An LGF operative was present in the audience and happened to be recording as Rep. Hinchey launched into a barking moonbat conspiracy rant worthy of Democratic Underground, telling the audience he believed the fake CBS memos were planted by Karl Rove to discredit Dan Rather, and divert attention from President Bushs draft dodging.
When our operative asked Hinchey if he had evidence for these charges, he first said, Yes, I do, but when asked a second time he admitted he did not.
Our operative pressed the issue, Dont you think its irresponsible to make charges like that? Hinchey replied, No, I dont, I think its very important to make charges like that ... I think its very important to combat this kind of activity in every way that you can, and Im willing, as most people are not, to step forward in situations like this and take risks.
And the crowd burst into applause and cheering.

Partisan NY 22nd District Newspapers Bury Hinchey Outburst
Not surprisingly, no one from Rep. Maurice Hinchey's office has so far replied to my email request to explain his outlandish claim that Dan Rather was duped by operatives of Karl Rove, even though I am a 22nd District constituent. I only mention that because Congressman reputedly like to use the dodge, "Well, you're not in my district so..."
Well Rep. Hinchey, I am in your district, you work for me and the other taxpayers of the 22nd District, and I think we have a right to know why you would make a comment, that if it did not involve a political figure, would likely constitute slander.
Not surprisingly, the local print news media, all with consistent liberal bias, have not felt this story warranted coverage. The Times Herald-Record whiffs, as do the three Gannett-owned papers in the District, the Poughkeepsie Journal, the Ithaca Journal, and the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin.
I am quite certain that if a New York Republican (say, Stephen Minarik) made a controversial statement about a nationally prominent Democrat, (say, Howard Dean) that even the national news media, such as the Associated Press would find it newsworthy, though it would take a blogger to prove the connection.
Should anyone desire to contact executives at these fine news organizations and ask them why they are ignoring this story, their names, titles, and email addresses are provided below.

Just ask how Jody Roselle missed the scoop of the week!
FYI: The Local CBS affiliate, WBNG, has now picked up the story:

I see that Hinchey is hiding behind the "everybody is entitled to his opinion" theory. Here's my take on that:
Hinchey did more than expess an opinion.
He stated, until pressed, that he had PROOF that a Senior White House official committed a felony (forging government documents) and did so knowing he had no proof. Not only did he essentially slander an entire administration, and a particular member thereof, but he did so for no other obvious reason than to pander to a friendly audience.
Furthermore, he chose to do this about a case that is still in the news, that led to several people probably losing their jobs at CBS and will probably end up in court.
That is the type of irresponsibility that no party should support in a Congress Member.
bump to the top.
The local paper has picked up the story, but buys Hinchey's lie that he never said he had proof:

I guess it was too hard to click on the LGF link and listen to the audio.
The nicest thing that can be said is that these folks are deeeply disturbed, and deserve our sympathy.
The Daily Freeman, a paper from Hinchey's end of the district, has picked up the story:

Sailors are NOT that dumb.
"Blame it on Bush" replay.
FYI - He's going to be on Hannity and Puke tonight on FNC.
Who? Hinchey?
Great article. Thanks for the ping!
Yes, Karl Rove is a political genius; so why would he waste his time/talen/energy' on something this stupid. .
.NOoooooo; this is a 'demrat classic' - all the way. Karl Rove offers genuine leadership; not the fraudulent kind the Dems rely on.
"I'm going to continue staying on Hinchey's case as long as I have ammo in my proverbial gun."Excellent. Good work!
