"44" (Condi Rumor)
Shape of Days ^ | 2/14/2005 | Section9

File this under rumor, the kind of which has the ring of truth to it. From the Shape of Days blog:

February 09, 2005

One for the rumor mill: ‘44’

I wish I could remember where I heard this. I've been meaning to post it for a couple of weeks, and in the intervening time I've completely forgotten who told me about it. So file this one under rumors-comma-amusing.

Everybody knows that the President refers to his father affectionately as "41," right? After the fact that George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States. Bill Clinton was #42, and George W. Bush is #43.

The rumor goes that ever since the election, the President has been jokingly referring to Secretary of State Condi Rice as "44."

Part of me really wants Condi to get the nomination in '08 because I think she'd be a fantastic President … but part of me wants her to get the nomination just so we can finally put that "the GOP is a white-men-only club" nonsense to bed once and for all.

I ran across this in the blogosphere last night, and it seemed to have the ring of truth to it, as Bush is the kind of guy who not only jokes that way, but probably thinks that way, as well. Would not at all be surprised if it's true.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

And without regard to whether or not it's a good idea to run Condi, I have talked to some liberal blacks who can't stand Condi or the Bush Administration - but said they'd have to vote for Condi just because she's black.

I guarantee this - it would certainly make for an interesting race.

Being a black woman will turn off at least some of the non-religious white male voters, especially in the lower and middle classes. White racism is a hidden vice in our time and its acknowledgment...

I'm sure you are right about this, but keep in mind that those ignorant Bubbas aren't dependable voters anyway, just bitchers. More than likely, they already hate Hillary, so having to chose between Condi or Hillary would make them feel the need to stay home and be "disenfranchized" whiners.

Your question is moot. If Pres. Bush were not pro-life, he would never have made it past the primaries.

The best choice for President in 2008 would be a moderately conservative Southern white evangelical male. The best choice for Vice President would be a moderately conservative non-Southern white Catholic male, preferably from a state that Bush lost in 2004, such as Michigan, Wisconsin, or Pennsylvania.

Let's continue to watch her as SOS...we'll see how she performs. That will determine if she'll be 44.

One thing I like best about her is her toughness....what she said last week in regard to IRAN...proves what a tough cookie she is. Then we've got her honesty...the list is long and is extremely positive.

On the other hand, Hitlery is toast if Condi decides to run for our 44th President. (The majority of sane Americans in this country, don't won't this dishonest BUTCH. Hopefully, we'll see her dirty hand along with Marc 'Pardongate' Rich in the making of the oil-for-food scandal coming out in 'bout 2006, created in her WH office.) ;o)

Her position on abortion is reflective of that of a large number of conservative women.

Well said. The proof is in the pudding, as it were. I think she will do extremely well at State, given the fact that several different developments appear to be coming to a head.

One thing: there are plenty of people who will vote for Hillary. Remember, Clinton will have the greatest instrument of agitation and propaganda since the Third Reich in her corner, the American Mainstream Media. Do not assume that others will vote against Hillary because you and I will.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

We kicked the rats butt in 2004. I know I know look at the pop vote numbers. skerry thinks this proves how well liked he really was. Well I say, FORGET ABOUT IT. When you own the WH, Senate, House and most of the governorships throughout America...in fact it wasn't close (rat voter fraud skewed the pop vote numbers for them).

We overcame the socialist MSM in this election....we'll do it again. If Condi, runs she'll win. ;o)

Whatever the case may be, single issue voters are morons since their "principled vote" may get them even worse in the end.

Black single woman as the first female President.

The real powers that be will look for a more mainstream person. IMHO

"I know, I know..this is unsourced rumor"

No surprise there; it's about like your supposed "contact" inside the military during the Fallujah contretemps, which is to say pretty much in-your-imagination-only...

Nevertheless (that is, putting your dubious support aside), I think Secretary Rice would certainly make a far better President than any Dim for sure; and not a few Republicans currently mentioned for '08, also. About the primaries, I'll suspend judgment this early; but if Dr. Rice wins the GOP nomination in '08, I'll support her to the hilt.

That's the guy. First 44 was Victor French, who was in Highway to Heaven. Another actor who played 44 was Al Molinaro from Happy Days. 44 was always concealing his big self in mailboxes, medicine cabinets and vending machines.

Wow. There is little point in remaining a trivia repository anymore, is there? Everything's googlable. :(

Unless your name is Ken Jennings, I guess. ;^)

No, but it sounds like it must have been a sticky situation.
