Couldn't agree more with your casting. You have Burton pegged down for that role - I can see him in a Gr Ntl with his "bandit" cowboy hat on and a big toothy grin.
Two respected actors I really miss are Sorrell Booke (none better at the JD Hogg role) and Denver Pyle, the firm voice of wisdom and country smarts.
Sounds like Cooter/Jones is torqued they didn't contact him about the movie. I'd say he had the "goodbuddy" mechanic role down pretty good too.

Denver Pyle, the firm voice of wisdom and country smarts. For the narrator, they ought to go out and get Waylon Jennings.
But for the greatest voice I've ever heard in a Southern man, I never heard a voice I admired the sound of more than George Jones's. James Earl Jones and Richard Burton weren't bad, but they're another gig.

The original Balladeer was, of course, the legendary Waylonman. His untimely passing last year has left us with a country music void.
Willie is going to be Uncle Jesse in the movie. Not sure about the casting on this one, but there's some rumors that Willie was cut out of the original role of Balladeer in the tv series, for whatever reason.

That's right -- Waylon
was the narrator.......and I'd forgotten he'd passed away. Well, hell, skunked twice.
I haven't a clue who could fill in as, as you call him, the Balladeer. There's got to be a couple of good ones.

When I was a kid, there was a body shop on Franklin Avenue (Malverne/Valley Stream border) that had a replica of the General Lee parked in front to attract business. Me and my freinds used to hum dixie whenever we would pass by on the school bus.

The late Sorrell Booke owned that role I went to elementary school with Mr. Booke's nephew. It was JA Dever in Valley Stream, NY, NOT Hazzard Elementary (I never saw any children on the Dukes of Hazzard).

Not bad. Not bad at all....
But the original was better back in the day.

Back in the 80's here in Douglasville, Georgia, there was a body shop owner that had a replica of the General Lee, complete with roll bars.
There was another guy that took a '72 vette body, slapped it on a 4 wheel drive frame and chassis, and painted it in the "General Lee" scheme.

Just dayum.
I agree, Brittney woulda made a better Daisy, or Lyndsey Lohan.

Red durt.......got a shirt over in Alabama from the state historical people (picked it up at an Indian-mound site) that is dyed with red clay. They call them "dirt shirts". All the dyes are different-colored Alabama clays.
The color has hung in there for seven years now, going on eight.

the yankees making this film, just don't understand that southern women fill out the shorts!
Jessica should know that since she is from texas, so my only guess is that they asked her to lose weight!
maybe she won't look skin and bones in the film.

But Burt is totally miscast as Boss Hogg. The late Sorrell Booke owned that role -- and he ought to have, as hard as he worked to get down a passable South Georgia accent (he was from Brooklyn). He was really great as Boss Hogg. A very solid comic actor. There's another VERY solid presence missing from the film, some really big boots that'll be mighty hard for a follow-on actor to fill. I don't reckon Gretchen Wilson could have got the job done, but it might have been entertaining to see her give it a good shot. Too bad it didn't work out that way, and too bad the original isn't around for a reprise of the role he made his own.
I'll miss him in particular.

Jimmie'd be shocked to hear he's passed on. Well, not really, he's told me several times before how often the news of his death is greatly exaggerated. And believe me, I think he'd still be up to the challenge of reprising his role, if only they had approached him about it. They really left the entire original cast out of every aspect of the new movie, which is a shame. And from the previews I've seen, it's not a movie you can really take the kids and grandkids to.

Jimmie'll be at DukesFest this year. For info on tickets, visit
