was lucky he wasn't on the air when it occured because surely he would have breathlesly relayed the details. Many mainstream media outlets were duped by a picture of a toy soldier that was purported to be an American troop held hostage by terrorists in Iraq.
Media outlets such as MSNBC and the Associated Press relayed the claims of the terrorists for two hours before they were shown to be false.
As with Memogate, it was online message boards that found the evidence: At 2:20pm EST, a poster on Militaryphotos.net posted an image of the GI Joe action figure. Members of other online forums like Fark.com, Democratic Underground, and FreeRepublic.com made similar conclusions within minutes.
UPDATE: Dan Rather was absent from his anchor spot on tonight's "Evening News." Is it just a coincidence that Document Dan was "on assignment" on the day the AP got busted for running fake photos?

Militaryphotos.net was the first site to post pictures of the action figure. FR figured it out at 2:27 ET. Militaryphotos had it at 2:20.
Maybe ? they might just be waking up ( DU ) to the fact, that it could have happen that Ran Rather and CBS really in fact ran bogus documents.
Guess they should have stuck with the R. Lee Ermy doll!

Will it Never end? Yesterday an Islamic terrorist group released pictures of what it called US soldier John Adams. John Adams real name is Cody and he is a toy registered with Dragon Models USA, Cody is a special OPS figure. The Liberal Advocacy group People for the American Ethical and United Democratic Treatment of Plastics (PAEUDTP) have already responded, registered a complaint with someone and the group plans a march on Washington to pressure the President to remove all Toys from the Occupied Iraqi areas. Patricia Burk of PAEUDTP (whew!) commented this president is responsible for tht figure and a whole lot of other stuff to. "Bush lied and good Toys died." Earlier reports had suggested that this was possible Francois the famed French self wetting action figure, Those rumors of course were premature. Linus halnek a repsresentative of Dragons Models spoke to the media earlier this afternoon. "After everything we have seen we believe it to be Cody. but .. but .. Cody man he was a good toy, I mean yeah his clothes were impossible to get off and on and his fingers never really wanted to hold the plastic gun but other than the complaints of the oversized undernub he was just a good African American Action Figure. Spike and crusher on aisle 9 will be devestated. We know they will. These terrorist have no shame....Free CODY!!!!!!!!!
