This is horsesh*t. 'Abuser Fees'?

This unfortunately continues a trend to turn the nation's highways into just one more vast tax collection apparatus.

I'm living for the day that the radar detector industry will move offshore (don't slame me yet) and then begin marketing devices that will not only detect police radar, but cause the damn systems to literally burn up inside their casing, iow, a 21st century version of ECM for the motorist.

The majority of drivers are careful and conscientious. It is virtually impossible to drive anywhere without exceeding the speed limit at some point. And while this dubious Virginia tax grab 'fee' on speeders might end up being sold to the public, it will result in wholesale voters AGAINST any lawmakers stupid enough to vote for this measure.

OK. Pass the lousy bill. After getting one of these, people will stay home. No driving, no shopping malls. No shopping malls, no sales tax. Economic depression. State looses revenue, fires cops. No more speeding tickets.

Everybody orders from Doctor Delivery. Invest in Doctor Delivery. Make money off stock. Double income and no tickets. Ain't life grand?

The most convincing evidence about the idiocy of speeding tickets came from the state licensing board for the profession in which I work. Every time I renew my professional license, I have to sign an affidavit declaring that I have not been convicted of a crime, and listing any and all motor vehicle violations I've been cited for in the period since my last renewal. Parking tickets and speeding violations are specifically exempted from the list of motor vehicle violations I have to disclose.

In other words, my state professional licensing board knows full well that speeding tickets do not reflect in any way on a person's ability to act in a law-abiding manner -- these tickets are nothing more than revenue stream for local governments.

"will not only detect police radar, but..."

Back in the 80's there were radar jammers sold to and used by truckers. In one mode, the device would jam the out going signal. In another mode the driver could dial in a preset speed that the LEO's radar would read back. The later require one to constantly monitor the system so you would not be nailed for 55 in a 45 mph zone.

Scale Houses at state borders begain using their own dection equipment to seek out vehicles with these jammers and radar detectors. I think that Federal Law now outlaws any radar detecting device in commercial vehicles.

Yes, it's true. The overwhelming majority of drivers are lawabiding and courteous. Then there are the slimeballs who view a speed limit as a "minimum". They frequently practice "dive bombing" folks in slower lanes ~ guess it gives them some sort of thrill.

That's why we have the SECOND AMENDMENT, and in Virginia folks get to "pack and ride".

Please be polite around here. It creates horrible traffic jams when they have to stop to clean up dead bodies.

Hmm. Note that in the liberty-loving Commonwealth of VA, radar detectors are illegal.

As an aside to the rest of your comment, there are devices you can make (cheaply) or buy that will jam police radar. They just send out a signal on the same band as the radar and the radar just gets gobbledy-gook. Not that I'm advocating law breaking.
