2008 Watch...Barbara Boxer?(Looking that way according to Dem. Operatives and Hill Staffers)

Don’t laugh. Okay, laugh if you must. But the rumors are swirling fast and furiously that the dolorous Barbara Boxer was doing much more than simply mugging for the cameras during the past two weeks. She’s was earning votes.

To the rest of the world, Senator Boxer appeared to become unhinged when she stood as the solitary member of the United States Senate to oppose the certification of President George W. Bush’s reelection. But in the hearts and minds of the radical wing of the Democrat Party – and especially among the Congressional Black Caucus and its sphere of influence – Boxer came off as a brave maverick willing to sacrifice her own reputation “to do what’s right.”

Then, during the confirmation hearing of National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, Sen. Boxer threw all decorum and fact out the window to essentially make a very public statement against the Bush Administration. Watching Boxer’s colleague John Kerry try to play catch up has been almost comical.

“Everyone on the Hill is talking about it. I mean, Boxer has never been considered a top recruit for Mensa, but her behavior lately has been so bizarre, people are wondering if she’s lost her mind … or running for president,” one Mid-Western Senator’s top staffer told me.

It bears noting that Boxer has run ads for both the election and Rice publicity stunts on lefty blogs asking for people to sign up and support her causes. The ads were paid for by Boxer’s political action committee. Collecting names and donations this close after an election is a clear indication Boxer is gearing up for some form of political advancement.

“You’ve got to understand, after the 2004 election, these people need a hero. Kerry’s not it. Hillary could be it, but she’s not going to do anything controversial in the next four years to jazz up the nuts. Who else have you got? Dean? He’s not running in ’08 if he wins the [DNC] chairmanship,” said one Democrat operative in Washington, who thinks a Boxer ascension would be worse for his party than even a Dean Chairmanship.

Boxer has a few things going for her. She’s a woman. She’s from California, a monster state with tons of delegates. She recently won reelection in stronger-than-expected fashion. She’s a proven fundraiser. And now she is building strong relationships with the radical wing of her party.

Of course, some folks think she’s just a San Francisco lefty. Still others wonder if she’s got the emotional aptitude to handle the top job, or even the rough-and-tumble campaign necessary to achieve victory. Her election certification crying spell forced even some Democrats to wonder if she was all there. “That was f*#ked up,” on Democrat Capitol Hill staffer said to me.

But still, Boxer would start on much firmer footing than, say, a certain obscure Vermont ex-governor who for a brief time was all the rage in the 2004 presidential race and today stands to inherit the Democrat Nation Committee.

Barbara Boxer, stupid? Yes. But like Homer Simpson, she might be stupid like a fox.

Yep, Hillary is going to be one tough cookie to beat in 2008. She will be a terrorist hawk. Hillary will be a faithful Church goer and push Church-based initiatives. Hillary will be a fiscal conservative. Hillary will not embrace gay marriage. In other words, Hillary will be the anti-Hillary. She has the handlers, she knows what she needs to do and is doing it. I just hope there is someone on the right up to the task of beating her. As much as I don't like it, Guilliani may be the only option if the Republicans want to win.

If this happens, that will be definitive proof that there is a G-d.

One can only pray that Boxer is the Rat Mental patient presidential candidate in 2008 with Howard Dean running the DNC.

This great! You should make this your tagline!

Well, my friend, after 99 or so really good essays, you're allowed ONE excursion into lala land. However, since I assume you were out last night celebrating President Bush's inaugural, I will advise you in the future NOT to write a column while hung-over....

Two things to ponder re Boxer"

I don't know if you saw the swearing in of the senators earlier this month. The ritual is that they come down to the well of the Senate, in groups of four, escorted by the other Senator from thieir state, to take the oath of office administered by VP Cheney....Feinstein wasn't there. IMHO, a serious, and purposeful omission....Boxer had to grab a body..it was Talent, I think, to stand with her...

Re her supposed aspirations..little has been wreitten or gossiped about the break-up pof the marriage betweem Boxer's daughter and Hillary's brother...but these things ain't ever pretty...could be some angst and anger there..

First Ken, I didn't write it. Pat did. And he wasn't at the inaugural last night. I don't think mentioned that this is a sure thing. Remember, he's a political consultant so knows how things work. He just looked at her recent actions, and they really do look like she's gearing up for something national. Also, he's reporting the thoughts of a Hill staffer, so it is being discussed, Plus, he's reporting what a Democratic operative told him.

Further, as I said in an earlier post, the far left is taking over the leadership of the party. Do I think that means Boxer is a likely candidate? No. But given that Howard Dean is about to take over the DNC, and that the radicals are trying to expand the primaries (to strenghten their influence), it's not as crazy a proposition as it sounds.

She really does look like she's cultivating the same crowd as Howard Dean, and if Dean is the DNC Chair, remember he's in charge of all staff hires, personnel decisions, fund raising, etc. So unlike Dean, it doesn't appear she will have the impediment of a party establishment hostile to her views, and actually smart enough to realize what a disaster she'd be.

Acutally you should freepmail Pat (his screen name is: Kerry Crusher) and get his thoughts on the possibility of it happening. I haven't emailed much w/ him today.

The media has reported VERY little of this story. Of course the privacy of all matters clinton/rodham surpass the public's right to know....unless it's a republican. As in the media gaining access to Jack Ryan's sealed divorce records.

I think Boxer is pandering to Michael Moore in the Ohio voting instance and in the other I think she sees Dr. Rice as a senatorial opponent in the future.

G'day, mate....

Thanks for the comments..first, I tend to think of the two of you as ONE blogging entity, an "Elley Queen" of incisive political commentary..<P.
Second, the idea of Boxer contemplating a run for the WH does push the envelope..Tom Harkin, for instance, during the campign, made many staements that were far more loathsome and egregious than Boxer, and he has NO plans for 2008. I didn't see the linkage..and you know me, from my "Report rom Chappaqua" columns..I can see stuff with the best of them that nobody else can see..(G)...I was just gentling funnin' with y'all..but with a reason a nd purpose.. You're ( again..pardon my ise of the collective here) tryign to break out into serious political commentary..and hopefully get noticed on a broader reach..and I think you merit the chance..but you've got to know when to scale back from the fringes..

regards

The Jack Ryan event really had my attention because I live in NW Indiana and are subject to Chicago news. I can't believe that the media was able to unseal court records concerning Ryan's devorce. Both Jack and his ex were opposed to it because they did not want it to cause any harm to the son.
It's obvious the entire reason it was pursued by the media was to dig up dirt on Ryan during the campaign.

"Boxer ... running for president”

No sober, sane adult would utter such words without expecting the rest of the crowd at the bar to chuckle and slap backs.

She's a political tool, not a wielder. Tools are used, not crowned.

She's dimwitted. Dimwits are hard-pressed to make even marginal showings in national primaries.

She has baggage; scandals in her family closet that won't be protected in a national run as they are by her sycophantic California press.

She's ugly. She's old. She can't flip red states to blue.

...The list goes on and on. Certainly, it's not *her* choices that are competing for the new DNC chair position. Pro-life Roemer and wild-eyed Dean are hardly in Boxer's corner of the ring. Pro-life Reid would likewise have a difficult time endorsing her.

No, Boxer's purpose in life is to serve as the Senator that history mocks for being a slow-witted, fad-chasing tool of the 1960's Left. Her picture in history books will be placed next to California's bottom-of-the-nation educational test scores for that state's school children. Future historians will merely ask if she was a product of such poor schools or a representation/manifestation of such ignorance on parade.

"He just looked at her recent actions, and they really do look like she's gearing up for something..."

...Her name has been floated as a challenger for California's Governorship. There are some scenarios where that could happen (e.g. Arnold wins Feinstein's Senate seat). But nationally, the far-Left is now a *negative*, and certainly not fielding contenders.
