Abu Musab al-Zarqawi reportedly arrested in Iraq
ITAR-TASS ^ | 01/04/05

Posted on 01/03/2005 9:57:11 PM PST by TexKat

DUBAI, January 4 (Itar-Tass) - Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, whom the US occupation authorities declared to be the "target number one" in Iraq, has been arrested in the city of Baakuba, the Emirate newspaper al-Bayane reported on Tuesday referring to Kurdish sources. Al-Zarqawi, leader of the terrorist group Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad, was recently appointed the director of the Al-Qaeda organisation in Iraq.

The newspaper's correspondent in Baghdad points out that a report on the seizure of the terrorist, on whom the US put a bounty of 10 million dollars, was also reported by Iraqi Kurdistan radio, which at one time had been the first to announce the arrest of Saddam Hussein.

There have been no official reports about the arrest of the terrorist. Al-Zarqawi, 38, a Jordanian, whose real name is Ahmad al-Khalayleh, aims to turn Iraq into a "new Afghanistan". According to Arab press data, Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad group has divided Iraq into several emirates. The group's independent subdivisions at a strength of 50 to 500 militants operate in the cities of Al-Falluja, Al-Qaim, Diala, and Samarra.

The personnel of the group is on the whole 1,500-strong and includes Iraqis and citizens of Arab and Islamic countries. There are demolition experts and missilemen among them.

The group has depots of weapons and explosives in various parts of the country. It intends to frustrate the upcoming parliamentary elections that are scheduled for the end of this month. Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad threatens to do away with Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi and members of the interim government.

Who knows? I have to assume we didn't until hearing otherwise from a U.S. government source.

But after all those incorrect Saddam reports, one of them did finally turn out to be true.

I haven't read this entire thread, so forgive me if someone has already posted this:

Baghdad, Iraq - Interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi simply smiled during the live television show [yesterday] when a man called to praise terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. The Iraqi leader then moved on....Source.

Makes you wonder if Allawi knows something.

According to IDAO's own sources in Baghdad and Sulaimanya, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been arrested in Bagouba by US forces. The US occupation forces will cite this arrest as a victory for their war on terrorism. The people of Falluja in their demonstrations demanding US withdrawal of the last few days, which has topped 30,000 people according to news agency reports, have raised slogans distancing themselves from the Zarqwai group. Abu Musab az-Zarkawi arrested

01/04/2005 12:45

Arabic newspaper "Al Bayan" reported on Tuesday that terrorist leader Abu Musad az-Zarkawi had been arrested in Iraq.

Abu Masad az-Zarkawi is known to be a leader of one of the most radical and bloodthirsty Islamic groups "At-Taukhid wal-Jjihad". The report quotes Kurdish sources. There has been no official conformation of the report. However, the exact sources have once informed the world about the arrest of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

According to "Al Bayan", Abu Musab az-Zarkawi has been arrested in the town of Baquba, situated north of Baghdad, reports "Interfax". However, there has been no official confirmation of the report.

In particular, the Pentagon doesn't confirm Zarkawi"s arrest "He has not been arrested. News about his arrest is nonexistent," stated Pentagon's newspaper to the Arabic newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat".

Abu Musab az-Zarkawi was on FBI"s top most wanted list. US officials consider az-Zarkawi to be the one behind numerous terrorist attacks and insolent assaults on American troops in Iraq. The US was willing to pay $25 million USD of reward money for Zarkawi, the same amount of money as for the leader of "Al Qaeda" Osama bin Laden.

One of the major goals of the 38-year-old Jordanian-born Abu Musab az-Zarkawi is to turn Iraq into "new Afghanistan". Based on the information from the Arab press, Iraq has been divided into several emirates by "At-Takhid wal-Jihad". There are up to 500 militants in the group that organize raids in al-Fallujah, al-Qaim, Diala and Samarra. The organization"s total manpower reaches 1500 men, including Iraqis, citizens of Arab and Islamic states. There are also explosive specialists among them.

In his New Year's address, leader of "Al Qaeda" Osama bin Laden called Abu Musab az-Zarkawi "Al-Qaeda's emir in Iraq". The former has also announced that he had accepted az-Zarkawi's proposal concerning the unification of the terrorist groups into a single unified organization.

remember the last time, I think we came close to getting him with a bomb on a safe house, for the next couple of days there was a disruption in the IED and car bomb attacks - it felt like the chain of command had been disrupted, and could not start up again until they had relocated and setup shop in another safe house.

let's see if we see a similar pattern here - but right off the bat, this assasination of the Baghdad governor today is not looking good.

I would think that if we captured any of these vermin it would be leaked by local sources and then officially denied while we tortured the shiite out of him.

This turn of events would be exactly what I would expect if the report was true.

That is what I would think also, that they would not want to announce his capture right away. Guess we just have to wait.

"How did we get from capturing al-Zarqawi to Potluck Chicken Casserole?
BTW - the recipe looks delicious."

This thread was reminding me of one some time back, where there was a serious topic (it was a live thread of some kind) and it pretty much turned in a casserole thread. So, I tought, what the heck! lol

I was echoing another poster when I indicated that ME sources aren't the most credible. So there's stories that have broken that turned out to be accurate, but also stories that turned out to be inaccurate. Didn't a Pakistan news source indicate they nabbed Zawahari a few weeks ago and that turned out to be false? So we'll just have to wait and see on this one. I think they'd be d@mn sure it was him before announcing publically that we have him, because a false report could really hurt us.
