Germany's loss
The American Thinker ^ | Jan. 1, 2004 | Thomas Lifson

Germans are fleeing re-united Deutschland, with its high taxes and resulting stagnant economy, for more promising environs overseas, most prominently in the United States and Canada, according to Deutsch Welle. I sympathize, and offer them a hearty "Wilkommen!"

I only wish that the United States would reform its immigration policies to stop discriminating against those with financial assets and educational qualifications. Penniless uneducated immigrants can sneak in with few conseuqences. But if you have worked to establish yourself with an educational and career pedigree, and have bank accounts, a stock portfolio, and want to buy real estate, you cannot live beneath the perception of officialdom. We have a de facto policy of importing the impoverished with no limit, and keeping out those who could immediately contribute wealth and taxes, with strict quotas.

Canada, for all its faults, allows those with substantial assets to invest in Canada to jump ahead and gain immigration preference. As a result hundreds of thousands of people of great talent and accomoplishment are replenishing the Canadian economy. Many of these people would prefer to live in America, but can't. ...

I know a number of recent German immigrants to America, and almost without exception they prize our virtues of liberty and a free economy. Nobody loves the Wild West history more, and few take greater delight in the glories of suburbia.

Not all Germans can stand the eurotrash attitudes over in Europe. Lots of good ones are throwing the towel and coming here or to Canada. They make good immigrants and love our country. This essay is fascinating. I say we braindrain the eurotrash and open the visa spigot to all the good ones who want to come here and leave them with their seething Islamofascists demanding welfare. The good ones can't stand it.

Einstein moved here, too!

We've attracted the best and brightest from Europe for centuries; in exchange, each year we send them a few drugged up urbanites to buy some Parisian flats and write back to their cocktail party friends in the States about how "great" they are being treated due to their fluency in French...

I believe the rest of the world thinks the US in general, and the Conservatives in particular, are anti-immigration.

Nothing could be further from the truth. I think what most conservatives have a problem with is ILLEGAL immigration. Immigration is what made this country great. But somewhere along the line, people like Ted Kennedy changed our immigration policy to only allow the poor, uneducated and unskilled into this country, to the exclusion of nearly all others.

I work with some remarkable people who are newly minted citizens. But the one thing they all seem to have in common is that they wanted to be Americans, not Serbo-Americans or Chinese-Americans.

We need to figure out how to get people into our country who WANT to be American and contribute to what makes this country great.

All well and good, but they need to stay in the old country and try to bring Europe back to its senses...and have more babies instead of aborting them.

I for one do not want to see European nations overrun with Muslims any more than they already have.

Sure but...what the world really needs if for these so-called America lovers to stay home and create other Americas where they are.

We have enough to do right here at home attempting rather feebly to assimilate those already here (not possible with Muslims BTW) not to mention dealing with the native born America haters who live here legally and hatefully.
