Unfortunately, Dino Rossi has Jumped the Shark

Heretofore we have supported Dino Rossi’s struggle against the forces of thievery out in the Washington Governor’s race. We even wrote an article about how the Democrats stole the election, and can certainly understand the anger both he and his supporters feel about the Ukraine-style heist.

.But his latest move is silly, irresponsible and has probably already damaged his political prospects for the future.

To recap, Rossi won an very close Governor’s race against Democrat Christine Gregoire. He won again after the first recount. But yet another recount (and some “found” ballots in heavily Democrat King County) later, and Gregoire appears to have “won.” As we said before, chalk it up to old-fashioned election theft, Democrat-style.

At this point Rossi had two models he could follow. He could be Al Gore who, feeling strongly that he’d actually won the presidency in 2000, acted like a royal pain in the arse until he’d exhausted all credibility. You can still see Al on occasion these days ranting and raving about “no war for oil.”

Or Rossi could have followed John Thune’s model. Thune narrowly lost his 2002 Senate contest against Democrat incumbent Tim Johnson in South Dakota. Here, like in Rossi’s case, there was at least some reason to smell a rat. But Thune swallowed his pride and lived to fight another day. On November 2nd he retired Tom Daschle, onetime Hill power player, to public life.

Rossi has chosen the Gore model. In fact, Rossi may even have surpassed Gore with the inanity of his latest suggestion:

Edged out of the closest governor's race in state history, Republican Dino Rossi urged his opponent to accept a revote, saying the uncertainty surrounding the back-and-forth election was bad for the state. Democrat Christine Gregoire's camp immediately rejected the idea as "irresponsible."

Apparently a revote would actually be possible, although it would have to be approved by the Democrat-controlled state legislature, an unlikely scenario. So why advocate for something you know will never happen? And just because it could be done doesn’t mean it should be done.

Moreover, Rossi has taken a step that actually makes Gregoire look like the adult in this process. The Gregoire campaign’s reaction was swift, brutal and politically smart:

"This ain't golf. No mulligans allowed here, folks," said Gregoire's spokesman, Morton Brilliant. "It's irresponsible to spend $4 million in taxpayer money on a new election just because you don't like losing this one."

And just like that, the bad guys become the good guys.

One wonders if the Rossi forces wargamed this thing out at all. The better course for Rossi would have been to accept the voters decision and gracefully step out of the spotlight. Then, at about this time next year announce his campaign for United States Senate against hapless dimwit Maria Cantwell. With a little luck, the John Thune story could have replayed itself in the Pacific Northwest.

Sadly, it seems a little too late for that possibility.

I doubt they stole it any more than we stole Florida (Sorry...I just refuse to act like a rat). Just like Florida, it was a painfully close loss after lots of back and forth bickering over counting ballots.

Personally, I'll take our win in Florida and be happy.

I agree. I love Dino, but he should've conceded and position himself for a run against Cantwell in 2006.

I believe Rossi should continue to fight. The article is inane. The Dems in one county were allowed to change the rules. Not fair, not logical, not correct.

This analysis ignores all the questionable (puttiing them in the best light) activities that went on the in the "recounts". There is corruption here, and if he proceeds it will come to light despite the efforts of the corrupt Dems and the long-complicit press. (Seattle has been thoroughly corrupt for a long time, as documented back in the 70s by William Chambliss in "On the Take: From Petty Crooks to Presidents" -- and yes, the rpess was complicit then too.)

Do you not listen? Rossi doesn't care about the senate, he's a freakin' self made millionaire more interested in cleaning house than a political career. He should not have conceded.

They ordered a revote in North Carolina for an agricultural office, we can here too. The rotting stench is overbearing, you're to close to the rotting head to be objective.

We need to get some better press. People (who are supposed to be on our side, no less) think Dino is acting like GORE? Dino actually WON!

Grrrrr.

Well, since you apparently have no interest or would in anyway be affected by a Gregoire governorship, it's pretty easy for you to sit back in your comfy chair and spout your "wisdom".

However, as someone who is here, at ground zero of this race, who has a life, a job, and family that could possibly be affected in some way by four years of complete democrat control of this state, and as someone who will have to explain to his children why elections in this state are not worth voting in when they get older because democrat vote fraud makes it useless - which I would have to do if we followed your advice - allow me to say that this particular article makes me sick to my stomach.

You dont' want to fight? Hey, feel free to roll over and piss yourself for the alpha male democrats in your life. Knock yourself out! More power to ya!

Just don't expect me, or my fellow Washingtonians to follow suit.

I think just about all Washington Freepers are right there with you, Chad.

As I told my Dr. DOAIJV when we were ordering my $45K car: "This is no time to get weak-kneed." ; )

I agree with you buddie.
Rossi needs to fight this thing to the bitter end.

He nor the Republican party can let the Democrats get away with the "recount until they win policy".
It is the exact same thing they tried in Florida.
The fact is if the Dems did not get the votes they needed in King county they woudl have went onto another Dem county. Dems have no problem with commiting fraud. They are commies after all.

A revote is the only way to clear up this mess.

Exactly LOL... except in this case, the 45K car is actually a fair, transparent, trustworthy election system run by people with integrity.

Yeah, this is no time to get weak-kneed.

You, and Rossi, and everyone else who is doing everything they can to fight this fraud, are doing the right thing. You don't make a start towards eliminating fraud and cheating and dishonesty by lying down for it, no matter how many times people (who don't really have your interests at heart anyway) tell you you should, supposedly for your own good.

I've noted on other threads the arch typical case for 'Rat fraud, after which this latest scandal is patterned. That was the 1984 race for the Indiana 8th Congressional District, in which 'Rat cheating had Frank McCloskey "win" against Rick McIntyre. The 'Rats cheated like crazy to "win" that one, people were saying how McIntyre should be gracious, play the good loser, and concede that race, because they were going to take care of him, they had great things in store for him, they were going to "get" McCloskey "the next time around". Well, guess what happened? Next time around, in the re-match, McCloskey creamed McIntyre. The 'Rats held that seat until '94, when Gingrich led the 'Pubs back into power in the House.

What difference did it make? Well, how many close votes did Clinton win in the '92-'94 Congress? Did his tax increase pass the House by one vote that session? Would Rick McIntyre sitting in that seat instead of a 'Rat have made a difference?

If we get nothing out of this but exposure of the Democrats' election-stealing tactics, it will have been worth it.

Maybe they won't do it in broad friggin' daylight next time.

I can't believe ANY conservative, familiar AT ALL with the details, wants us to let this go. It's shocking to me. Washington Freepers are fighting this battle all over FR, with out-of-staters who apparently don't realize what's happened here.

Exactly. We have to make a stand. We can't wait until 2 or 4 years down the road when maybe, just maybe, enough people might remember this, but rather we have to make a stand NOW. We may not 'win', but we WILL make the rats wish that we had...

It goes beyond the actually governorship.
It would set a bad presidence.

They Dems tried to do the exact same thing in 2000. Asking for recounts in selected counties. It is a joke.
You could recount and recount until you get the outcome you want.

Oh no Chad,

We should buck up, and promise to do better next time. Just accept that our (unproven) RINO lost (although he actually WON 2~of~3) to a "better" Hillary clone.

What most of these folks don't (or won't) consider is the message that walking away from this disaster of an election would send to the 'rats.

Without Rossi pursuing this, right here and right now, no non-liberal would ever have the right to claim voter fraud again. If the 'rats are allowed to openly steal this election, it will affect Washingtonians directly, but the ripple effect will be felt much further.

But don't protest too strongly Chad, because that would appear unseemly...

People need to become aware of the Democrats' theft. If that's all we get out of this - and given that Dems are in power here, that may be all we WILL get - but people will KNOW what happened. That ballots were "found". That ballots were PERMANENTLY ALTERED with felt pen. That scratched-off White Out revealed overvotes that had been counted as votes FOR Gregoire. That people in the MILITARY were screwed out of their right to vote.

I can't believe we're having to tell even other conservatives that a fair, clean election is something worth fighting for. I'm just stunned.
