A new piece by Peter Singer?

Insects = precious

Babies, the elderly = expendable

But after reading this skreed, I want to find someone who talks about "spheres of compassion" and run them over with my gas-guzzling SUV.

Also, why is it a "sphere" of compassion and not a rectangular parallelpiped of compassion? Didn't the smartest man in America 2004 talk about being compassionate by putting social security receipts into a lockbox? Isn't that just a right(eous) rectangular parallelpiped of compassion?

Say, that sounds like about five or six gas-guzzling SUVs. Hey, guys, I eat meat!

I include insects in my animal rights philosophy. I try to avoid accidentally stepping on insects. Also, when I find an insect in my home, I try to carefully carry the insect outside without injuring him.

Damn, I miss Phil Hartman!

And you registered today to post this useless vanity? What, are you hoping to find that FReepers go on mass insecticidal killing sprees? We only kill trolls, so say your prayers.

After driving thru the Florida Everglades in my Dodge Ram, I had some wonderful insects stuck in the grill. I marveled at their color and shape. Then I washed them off in Fort Myers at the Rub A Dub Car wash with some strong pre soak chemicals.

Would these be the insects that eat and kill all the vegetables?

Yeah! I don't think we should kill them either.

Save them, and let vegetarians become extinct!

"Although I can not prove it with absolute 100% certainty, I believe that at least certain insects are also conscious. By this, I do not mean that insects discuss philosophy, but simply that they feel sensations such as pain and hunger."

Although I have no scientific backround, I'm 100% sure that insects have consciousness as defined herein. They've got exo-skeletons (always thought that was one of God's more brilliant concepts, but kind of glad I don't have one myself) so I'm not sooooo sure about the pain thing, but feeling pretty convinced on that HUNGER thing.

With regards to animal rights, the distinguishing characteristic between plants and animals is that animals possess consciousness, whereas plants do not.

Actually quite wrong.

Is it your intention to flood the board with every bit of stupidity you can find?

Because if so you are off to a good start.

I can not quite decide if you are a troll or simply a nitwit with no manners.

How do you know that tomatoes don't scream every time you cut them?? Carrots, when you pull off the stems? Onions when you dice them? Where does it stop?

Termites, mosquitoes, earwigs, snails, flies, moths...
We have an understanding; they stay out of my home, and I stay out of theirs. The penalty for violating the deal is death.

Spiders, for the most part, are members of my conspiracy to kill indiscriminately. Works for me.
