Dear Target Guest, I appreciate the opportunity to respond to your e-mail to Target. Like many nationwide retailers, Target Corporation has a long-standing "no solicitation" policy that it consistently applies to all organizations...

If this letter is any indication of Target's attitude, they are in big trouble with their customer base. Look for a bad year for Target. Time to sell stock if you have any.

Bla bla bla.

It's just not Christmas without the Salvation Army. I've only seen them locally at Albertons so far, so I shop there every day!

Never had any of their stock, never shopped there, won't ever go in. Lousy policy. The don't have to let Looney Moonies, and other subhuman filth in, if they let the SA solicit. It's private property with a public accomodation, and they set the exclusionary policy.

Here in Penna, we have all kinds of privately-owned store who allow SA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts etc solicit, and exclude the rabble and junk. No biggie. I do, every year at my 20ac facility.

C'mon ACLU 'et al garbage'; mess with me!

I see no wrong in what Target is doing. They told the Salvation Army way back at the beginning of the year they would not be able to solicit this Holiday Season.
No they CANT choose who they will allow and will not allow to solicit.

As far as TArget's policy goes, IT SUCKS. From what I've heard, they don't support SA in addition to: They turned down "Toys for Tots" because it's run by the U.S. Marines, and yes, they do support "charities" to the tune of $2mil, environmental groups, PETA, and many gay and lesbian advocacy groups. I believe they are owned by a French corporation as well.

"This decision in no way diminishes Target Corporation's commitment to its communities.

Of course it does! What nonsense!

Do you have a link for this? If yes, perhaps we should put again and again here.

I'll see if I can find the verification, I saw that months ago, and I'm not sure where.

They also support groups such as the Boy Scouts, Big Brother, United Way. The guy that said they support Peta needs to tell the whole truth, not only post the ones he doesnt agree with.

My local Target has no problem blast gangsta rap music and killing & rapin. The stereos are right next to the toy department.

Target hates the S. Army bell ringers but loves gangsta rap.

The Target store down the road here allows the Salvation Army to solicit right at the door.

The Target store down the road allows the SA to solicit right at the entrance. The Salvation Army has been there every year since that Target opened 4 years ago.

--I see no wrong in what Target is doing.--

That this is within their right is true. That I may speak my disaproval of their policy by speaking out about it and calling them "Scrooge" is within my right as a free citizen.

Sometimes, you have a neighbor who seems crass. You normally try to avoid him, even if he isn't directly hurting you. This is a similar case for many of us, I am sure.

Great minds think alike. That's the first thing that popped into my (so called) Brain.

Spot on, Valin. They've got some hidden agenda we're not seeing, IMO. Or maybe the chairman's wifey just doesn't want the *common rabble* bothering her customers. Dunno for sure, but something's afoot.

The SA has been out at our local mall and many of our local grocery stores, all of which are far smaller entities than Target. And if Target gives in because they think their size makes them a bigger target, I think that'll encourage more trouble, not prevent it.

My response is to increase my support for the Salvation Army. I now drop cash in every time I see the bucket, both coming and going.

If I had been a Target shopper I perhaps would have mailed a letter to the store manager reflecting my disappointment in their decision and encourage them to find an alternative way to offer their support for the Salvation Army. After all, the real goal is to support the charity.

Target gives $2M all right... per week! Plus, when they told the SA that they were pulling the plug, only after having a flood of others wanting to solicit, they told the SA they wanted to just give them cash directly and told the SA to just let them know how much. If they were so broke maybe they should've taken target up on the offer.

I shop at Target a lot more thanks to this policy as target gives a large percentage of their profits to charities and don't due underhanded things like taking out life insurance (payable to the walton family) on their elderly employees like bug blue does.
