The rally is a means to get media coverage, which our side is not getting at the moment because MSM and Kerry are controlling the news cycle. Who Dares Wins.

We have no coverage because there's nothing to cover, no smoking gun has been produced.

Time's a wasting. Where's the beef, Chief?

If your evidence is documents, scan'em and post'em. You want my help? SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE!

Maybe they don't want your help? I don't know the story here. One thing I do know is KERRY DID NOT GET AN HONORABLE DISCHARGE INITIALLY. That I know. It is obvious. He won't release his records. If this man, who was hired by the SwiftVets to do the research for the book "Unfit for Command", says he has something, I listen.

Maybe they don't want your help?

If so, spamming FR with requests for help is a funny way to show it.

Dear PbB,

I've condemned Dan Rather for reporting something before it was authenticated. He was relying on a source he thought was credible, but without any real further verification, authentication, or fact-checking.

I've condemned the NY Times for running with something before all the relevant facts were found. They relied on sources they thought were credible, but did very little additional reporting or fact-checking with other sources, and made no attempt to place their "facts" in context.

I certainly wouldn't assert something as true without knowing what the evidence is, and having had the chance to see it weighed objectively and independently, for its veracity and context.

Trust but verify.

Dear Unruly Human,

"I can't believe the cynicism and sniping going on over this."

It isn't cynicism, it's skepticism.

We have a bald assertion with no supporting documentation or first-hand testimony. We have less than Dan Blather or the NY Slimes.

Skepiticism is a good thing, especially when dealing with allegations this loaded.

False allegations, or even allegations that would remain largely unproven by Tuesday, given wide exposure, could affect President Bush negatively.

I meant yours in particular. You don't want to help. Navy Chief was hired by the SwiftVets to do research for them. His research is in "Unfit for Command" He is the real deal. If you don't believe him IGNORE EVERYTHING THE SWIFTIES HAVE SAID. It is not credible as it is based on NavyChiefs research.

Now I am not going to be there - I can't. I don't know what he has planned - but I trust him and the SwiftVets.

I posted the Swiftvets Admins response to his first thread disavowing the Swifties connection to this rally. I was not happy. Now all of a sudden it is up on their official site at the top with 18+ pages of replies and has not been pulled. What has changed? Why did it get pulled yesterday by the Swifties and is the talk of their site today? Something changed and the Swiftvets (I know they are totally unreliable) are behind this. I am listening. I am hoping there is something to this. I definitely am not going to throw cold water all over it. You do what you want.

Just remember John O'Neil is the mouthpiece of the Swiftvets. NavyChief is the meat. I have reservations about what is going on here but I want to see what he has to say. You should too.

I'll see if can get the Navy Secretary to call you personally.

BTW He'll be there Sunday afternoon. If you took the time to follow the messages, you would know that the plan if off if this is just a handful of people - like the typical FREEP.

The Navy Secretary has a reputation too, and may not want to "speak up" unless he thinks there is some support.

No one is begging you to participate. Like I said, plenty of room in the bleachers.

I just find it ironic how many times I have seen an number of posts here that effectively said "Did you see that they mentioned us (FR)?" or references to how FR "really" solved the Rathergate documents?

We didn't believe his stuff because he said it. We believed it because he released evidence, first-hand testimony, living witnesses, affidavits, official records, to back up his assertions.

When folks see the evidence, folks'll believe.

If he's got the goods, great, but it isn't unreasonable to withhold judgment till we get to see 'em.

LOL! This former Navy Secretary has the goods on Kerry's less than honorable discharge, which would be earth-shattering if true, and has waited until the Sunday before election day to drop the dime, but only if a SNAFUed effort to get a couple of thousand people to Washington, D.C. can come together on 48 hours notice?

Bull.

It looks like I was wrong. The Chief just cancelled the rally.

This is beautiful...simply beautiful.  People are signing up to get us to rally around a story with no proof, and then when we don't bite it's because "there are some moles here" (according to a poster).  One of two things is happening here:

1)  There is no story.  These are disrupters trying to get Free Republic and other conservative websites to fall for the non-story, and thus lose credibility all-around.  This would be tied to President Bush, because according to the Left, we're not free-thinking individuals but tools of the Bush Administration ( a little projection, perhaps?).  Perhaps it is mere coincidence that John Kerry recently ran with an uncorroborated story and is being challenged somewhat by it.  It would be nice if they could get our side to do it, too.  If that became the case, the outcry by the MSM media would be much, much louder.

This is NOT about Free Republic, but the re-election of George W. Bush, the conservative movement in general and our personal reputations (we are real humans with jobs that demand good reputations).  In this case, deception and obfuscation rules the day, especially when trying to turn us against each other.  "Could ___________, a longstanding FReeper, really be a mole?" someone thinks.  They've achieved their objective when that happens.

2)  There is a story.  Conveniently, if the story fails to break out, they've already covered their bases -- "It's ___________'s fault!"  I will not accept that.  Any conservative website worth its salt would have given the story legs a week ago (including their own swiftvets.com), but they sat on it.  No one's to blame but them.

Why are they having to use other websites, anyway?  Why are we only being linked to discussion groups?  As I said before, there must be a reason you can't find it under "Latest News" or "Press Releases, etc"  This is what MikeGranby wrote in one of the threads:

----------------------------------
Quite. Sorry to be down on this, but I think that this whole rally thing is a very bad idea. Like one poster said over on FreeRepublic, if someone has the goods on Kerry, get them to Drudge et al as quickly as possible and give this story some time to run. If they don't have the goods, then the rally is going to be a waste of time. You and I know that there's something ugly lurking in Kerry's records, but unless there's 100% proof, no-one in the mainstream media is going to touch this story. When you add-in all the problems you're going to have with congestion on Sunday, the rally simply doesn't make sense.
Here's an excuse from one of the discussion groups:

The response?

Respectfully dissent. With our Metro (subway system) there is no congestion. You park for free on Sundays. It will take you within a few blocks of where we need to be. For me that is at the rally. As for 100% proof Navy Chief has never let us down. As for revealing anything this website is crawling with trolls who also analyze and try to hit you with viruses. --  1AD

Let me put the shoe on the other foot: If you have hard evidence, call them yourself. Show me some proof and I'll do everything I can to help you get your story out, and I suspect that 99% of FR will do the same.

If it was that simple to get the attention of the MSM, why would anyone need your help?

As other posters have pointed out, the MSM wouldn't cover this important story if it painted itself purple and danced on their desks singing "I'm an Important Story!"

Kerry and the VVAW have proved that isn't true in the 1970's. My personal experience is that the media loves a big "protest. Maybe they should call it the Million Vet March?

Your only chance is the blogsphere and talk radio, and every moment you delay is valuable propagation time lost. If your evidence is the personal testimony of a big cheese, record a video and stream it. If your evidence is documents, scan'em and post'em. You want my help? SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE!

Funny, that's what we hear from the MSM. News Bulletin: - There ARE still people that don't live in the Blogsphere. Some that actually read still newspapers and watch TV. How many minds do you think you will be able to change in the Blogsphere? That's like either "preaching to the choir" or "talking to the deaf".

Or maybe you think the weenies at DU will see the light?

I'm sorry.

I'll be glad when this election is over. I've been on the edge of my nerves for far too long.
