I'm running for mayor of a small Minnesota town, population 5500. I wanted to solicit helpful advice from wise fellow FReepers:
Q: f I were YOUR mayor, what is the first thing you would want me to do? (in your community, what's your #1 concern)
Q: What do you expect from your city government? What DON'T you want them to do?
Q: How should the city try to attract business and industry to town?
So, if you were face-to-face with YOUR mayor, what would you say or ask? I realize that every town and city are different, with wildly divergent needs and problems. I just wanted to get a feel from FReepers in different parts of the country what is most important to you in local politics.
FWIW, the town is Glencoe, Minnesota. We're a rural community that will probably be growing dramatically in the next few years as Twin Cities suburbs spread out closer this way. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of industry in town, and some businesses have actually left town in the last 10 years. It's a nice community, low crime (for now), pretty good schools, fairly low cost of living. The problem is, property taxes and fees have been creeping up for several years, and the tax base isn't growing much yeat, as there aren't enough jobs to attract many people to live here.
Begin your inauguration speech, "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA! I FOOLED YOU! I FOOLED YOU ALLL!"
:o)
Well, I'd have to actually WIN before I can give an inauguration speech. First things first.
